Boy – Short Film by Prasanna Puwanarajah

Prasanna Puwanarajah has created a new short film titled “Boy”.

Boy is centered around a carpenter who is building the Olympic Velodrome track and his son who is an avid cyclists. The film stars Timothy Spall and directed by Justin Chadwick.

Even though the film is silent, that’s right no dialogue at all, the message is clear and will touch everyone from everyday cyclists to people riding once a month. The film is sure to bring up some memories.

Built to accommodate 6,000 cycling fans, the 2012 Summer Olympic velodrome in London is ready for action.

The architecture was handled by Hopkins Architects, who got the job done on time within its budget. The company designed the velodrome with a green mind. Its ability to reuse rainwater and make the best of natural light is a key feature of it roof design.

As one of the first structures to be completed for this year’s Olympic games, the velodrome is already being used. And with every bit of news leading up to the big day, we’re growing more excited.

A $4 million Velodrome in South Carolina

a 4 million velodrome in south carolina 1 300x169   A $4 million Velodrome in South CarolinaRock Hill, South Carolina will soon be the site for a multi-million dollar velodrome, BMX Supercross track and a cyclocross course. The facilities will be open to the public with major construction of the new building will begin next year at the site which will be renamed Riverwalk. Come later this spring, a walking trail will emerge along the riverbank where once Catawba Indians walked.

Mayor Doug Echols of Rock Hill expresses his excitement over the project. The site was where a Celanese industrial plant once stood. The 1,000-acre land will also include construction of houses, shops and restaurants.

“This is a tremendously exciting project. It is really transformational. Along with the other venues, I think it affords us an opportunity to truly be a cycling center for the East Coast,” said Mayor Echols.

Utah’s town of Draper City voted on Tuesday in favor of opening up a velodrome in the city, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The city council of Draper has passed a resolution supporting a velodrome to be located at Lynn Ballard Ballpark. However, the vote was “non-binding”, meaning that nothing is set in stone. It does, however, open up doors for talks about funding and conceptual planning for a velodrome. Draper City Councilman Jeff Stenquist has told the Salt Lake Tribune that a velodrome would indeed fit into the community, and even provide a means of economic development by possibly hosting competitions.
