Spaniard Joaquim Rodríguez made the move from Caisse d’Epargne to Katusha in hopes of riding as a team captain, but that plan may be postponed a bit due to a crash during a Katusha training camp. On a training ride today, the second day of the camp, Rodríguez rode into some broken glass which left him with a slashed front tire and deep cuts on his gluteus and thigh. After the crash, he felt dizzy, and was taken to the hospital. “It caused some pretty ugly cuts, one on the gluteus and the other on my thigh. The cuts were deep, with a lot of blood. The cut to the gluteus was so deep you could see the fat. They took me to the hospital, where they gave me 15 stitches and told me to take at least 10 days off the bike,” said Rodríguez. …

Team Milram is now enjoying an escape from the cold European weather at their training camp in Mallorca, Spain. “We called together our complete new squad to prepare ourselves together for the important work in the coming season,” said Gerry van Gerwen, team manager. The team consists of 24 riders, with 16 of them being Germans. Their training days began with thirty minutes of walking along the beach, after which comes stabilization training with Milram’s physiotherapists. They would eat breakfast and then ride in the Mallorcan sun for six hours. They split up into groups which target training for specific events like the Tour Down Under or spring classics. Italian team Liquigas has began their second training camp in Valencia, Spain, after their trip to the snow in Passo San Pelligrino, Italy. The first trip was intended as a team-building activity, while the second is all about pre-season training. Although the team was at the Benicassim beach area, they still had to wear full winter gear due to low temperatures. The good folks at Jelly Belly Cycling have donated a training camp via auction that will help raise money for Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids. The winning bidder will have the opportunity to both meet and ride with the Jelly Belly cycling team this winter in California. The auction will take place on eBay on January 11th. “Danny Van Haute and Jelly Belly Cycling have been very generous with their training camp donation,” says Dan Gindling, the president of Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids. “For every $50 we raise we can supply an underprivileged child with a brand new bike, helmet and lock. Our goal next year is to put 1,000 kids on bikes and the Jelly Belly donation will go a long way in helping us reach our goal,” he adds. Brand new team RadioShack has met in Tucson, Arizona, to begin their first training camp. Former Astana riders Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, Chris Horner, Andreas Klöden, Yaroslav Popovych and Haimar Zubeldia have came together with newcomers, such as Daryl Impey, Sebastien Rosseler, and Gert Steegmans and hit the streets of Tucson. The riders’ current contracts are still valid for a couple of weeks, and RadioShack still has to finish the team uniforms, so they wore their old team jerseys for training….
