He also spoke about his change of bikes, from Trek to Specialized: “The main differences that I’ve noticed are that it (S-Works Tarmac SL3) seems like a much stiffer bike — so much so, that it can take a couple of days to get used to it.” He also says that he’s motivated by the competition for this year, and his first race will be Portugal’s Tour of the Algarve. “I think, in July, I will have a strong team to back me in the Tour de France,” he said optimistically.

Basque team Euskaltel-Euskadi has followed suit with team Saxo Bank, releasing a shortlist for their 2010 Tour de France lineup. The team captain, Samuel Sánchez, will be joined by Egoi Martinez, Rubén Pérez, Gorka Verdugo, and Amets Txurruka at the Tour in July. The same group all rode together at the 2008 Tour de France, where Sánchez finished seventh overall. Iñaki Isasi, Juanjo Oroz, Alan Pérez, Aitor Hernandez and Iban Velasco will be competing for the remaining four spots on the team. U23 world champion Romain Sicard was named as a reserve, as were Koldo Fernandez de Larrea and Benat Intxausti. Euskaltel-Euskadi has also announced that they will miss the Giro d’Italia for the second year in a row….
