hushovd takes stage 3 tour de france 2010 300x215   Hushovd takes Stage 3 Tour de France 2010Thor Hushovd of Norway (Cervelo Test Team) claimed the green jersey after a gruesome and cruel race from Wanze in Belgium to Arenberg at the third stage of the Tour de France. It was a bittersweet victory since the treacherous stage claimed fellow cyclist, Frank Schleck of Saxo Bank.

The leading support cyclists for Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank) was his brother Frank. However, Frank failed to deliver his defensive talents when he crashed and was badly injured on one of the cobblestone sectors in the race for the yellow jersey. Teammate Jens Voigt expressed his thoughts on the stage 3 race.

“Because of this reckless and dangerous game the organizers have played with the riders’ health, I lost one of my best friends in bike racing due to a broken collarbone.”

Hushovd in Recovery After Surgery

hushovd in recovery after surgery 300x225   Hushovd in Recovery After SurgeryOn Monday, the Norwegian sprinter and defending Tour de France green jersey champion, Thor Hushovd went under surgery after he broke his collarbone on Sunday’s training ride in Italy.

“The surgery went pretty well. It was more complicated than actually expected,” declared the 32 year old Hushovd and was in a bit of pain but considerably having a good day. He added, “Yesterday I flew home, and I’m happy to be back home now in Monaco, to start the recovery process and spend some time with my family.”

Hushovd could be back in the saddle in time for the Tour de France in July, however Cervelo Test Team officials have not yet determined the exact date when he can return to compete.

Heinrich Haussler and Thor Hushovd, both Team Cervelo captains, are not looking to copy the tension-filled season by Armstrong and Contador in Astana last year. These two have dispeled any notions of any in-fighting going on, and they have stated that they prefer a more peaceable and cooperative approach to their existence on the team.

Their success on the circuits seem to depend on it. The 2009 season saw both riders showing their dominance in the spring classics. They moved on to the Tour de France, where Hushovd earned a stage victory and also managed to hold off Mark Cavendish for the chance to wear the green jersey for the second time, while Haussler grabbed a stage win for himself.
