The World Triathlon Corporation made new changes for the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series on its swimming rules and regulations. The new rules for wetsuits and swim apparel shall be effective on September 1, 2010.

The modifications are in place to level the playing field and promote fairplay for the events that will take place around the world. They are in accordance to rule changes that have been adopted by triathlon and swimming’s international organizations, FINA and ITU.

The new rules are as follows:
• Swimwear material excludes rubberized fabric like polyurethane or neoprene. All swimwear should be made of 100% textile material like nylon or lycra.
• Swimwear may not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders or knees.
• Swimsuits can have a zipper and a trisuit or race kit may be worn underneath it.
• Wetsuits are not allowed to be thicker than 5mm.
• Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees…
