Despite suffering from pneumonia earlier this week, it seems that Stuart O’Grady‘s condition has improved enough to start training again. Which means that he’ll be able to take part in the Tour Down Under in 2010. “It’s just been a case of no physical activity – just lying around the house has been frustrating. This morning I got the all clear from the doctor to actually start riding again very lightly; there’s still a bit of an infection in the body,” said O’Grady. “It’s most important now not to push my body too far into the red and past the limit, which could be detrimental to the rest of the season. I definitely won’t be in the form I’ve been in the last few years. Last year I said I hadn’t enjoyed the build up I wanted before the Tour Down Under and…

Australian cyclist Stuart O’Grady had plans to return to racing next Sunday in the Stan Siejka Launceton International Classic, but it looks as if those plans will be put on hold due to pneumonia. “I spent Wednesday to Friday with a raging fever, incredibly painful headaches, some chest pain and a few other nasty symptoms. I decided it was time to go into the hospital and get the diagnosis. I spent all Friday at the Royal Adelaide getting checked out, tested and so on, still feeling extremely ordinary. They diagnosed me with bacterial pneumonia. I have quite a serious chest infection and started antibiotics immediately. O’Grady had health problems during a MotoGP event in Spain not too long ago, after going on a “hot lap”…

Stuart O’Grady was released Wednesday from a Spanish hospital after collapsing at a MotoGP event. Australian Cycling Federation officials say that O’Grady suffered a seizure after a “hot lap,” and that the stress on his body may have been what caused it. Following an MRI scan and a series of tests, O’Grady was given the green light to leave. “When the ride finished of course I could feel my heart rate soaring, my blood pressure rising, but I didn’t give it much more thought. But then I started having blotchy vision and 20 minutes later I had a seizure and collapsed. It was possibly the extreme ‘hyper tension’ or maybe an old scar on my brain from one of my previous crashes but there’s no use speculating or guessing, it’s happened and that’s that,” says O’Grady. We’re glad he’s out of…

Australian cyclist Stuart O’Grady has been admitted to a Spanish hospital after collapsing at a MotoGP circuit in Valencia, Spain. 36-year-old Saxo Bank rider O’Grady had just finished taking a hot-lap around the race circuit and was being introduced to MotoGP riders by Australian MotoGP racer Casey Stoner. Cycling South Australia executive manager Max Stevens says “Casey Stoner started to interview Stuart and introducing him to these people,” said Stevens. “Stuart couldn’t answer the questions and then he collapsed. They called the medical team and luckily he had the doctors on standby for the race. We’ll know more in the next couple of days. Ann-Marie, his wife, is at home in Monaco and we’re getting all this information through third parties. O’Grady has dealt with health issues throughout his 14-year career, including surgery in 2002 to remove a blockage in his iliac artery which caused…
