Tour de France 2010 Fight Between Carlos Barredo and Rui Costa

Stage 6 of the 2010 Tour de France ended with a fight! Yes that is correct, Carlos Barredo and Rui Costa, both rivals ended stage 6 throwing blows at each other until officials broke it up. Witnesses have said that Barredo went after Costa as they crossed the finish line.

Although altercations like this normally do not happen, officials responded quickly to the fight between Carlos Barredo and Rui Costa. Neither parties are disqualified from the race, but each were issued a fine of 400 Swiss Francs, which is about $380 USD. The behavior of the two was labeled by Tour de France officials as “Insults, threats, and incorrect behavior. Here you can see a clip of the short altercation.

The Portuguese government has announced the names of 82 men and women out of 16 sports who will receive grants for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Of those recipients is 23-year-old Rui Costa, who rides for Spain’s Caisse d’Espargne. Costa is the only cyclist who has been selected to receive a grant for the games. Riding for Portugal’s Benfica team, Costa turned pro back in 2007 and remained with the team throughout 2008. He made his ProTour debut with Caisse d’Espargne in 2009, winning the four Jours de Dunkerque, the GP Credito Agricola, a stage at the Vuelta a Chihuahua, and the Vuelta a Chihuahua’s mountain classification….
