NUE 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race Series for 2010

The US National Ultra Endurance Series 2010 (NUE) sponsored by Kenda, will begin on April 24, 2010. 2009 NUE series champs were Betsy Shrogen and Jeff Schalk. The 100-mile mountain bike races will kick off at Cohutta 100 in Tennessee. The series is composed of eight 100 mile races and will end on September 5 at the Shenandoah Mountain 100.

Replacing the Sierra-Tahoe 100 of last year’s event is the High Cascades 100 in Oregon. Co-organizer, Ryan O’Dell expresses his excitement over this new move. Oregon will get to have its virgin run on August 7, 2010.

Scheduled to run the same way as 2009, the US National Ultra Endurance Series will close with a bang on Labor day weekend at the Shenandoah Mountain 100 race. This is also where the tiebreaker race will take place based on the best four events score by racers.

Organizers for NUE strongly encourages early registration to accommodate interested riders. O’Dell observed, “The Lumberjack sold out earlier than ever this year, and overall, race registrations are ahead of schedule from last year. The only race that doesn’t have a field limit is the Mohican 100.”

Coming back for the series are Harlan Price of Team CF, who was also the series’ first-ever champion, female bikers Amanda Carey and Cheryl Sornson, and Gerald Pflug.

Moving forward, O’Dell remarked that they are looking into placing new races for the 2011 NUE series.

La Ruta De Los Conquistadores 2010

The 17th edition of La Ruta de los Conquistadores is set to begin on Wednesday. 225 riders from all over the world will be competing in the multi-day race in Costa Rica. 80 of the 225 riders are local, and the rest are international. “It’s not about making it to the finish line, it’s about working with what you’ve got, giving it all your might and surviving the adversities that you might come upon along the way. Lending a hand to someone else, a sip of water, a spare tube, a word of encouragement, a friendly smile… while you compete against yourself… that’s the true spirit of La Ruta,” says organizer Roman Urbina. Some favorites for the men’s La Ruta race are Tinker Juárez, Jeremiah Bishop, Bingen Fernandez, Marc Trayter, Mauricio Patiño, Rune Christopher Hoydahl, Manuel ‘Manny’ Prado, Ben Bronston and Milton Ramos, and five-time winner and defending champion Federico “Lico” Ramirez. Past winners Adrian Bonilla and Edgar Zumbado will be there, as well as Pan Am champion Deiber Esquivel. For the women’s race, the favorite is Louise Kobin.
