Colombian cyclist Mauricio Soler is in a Colombian hospital after colliding head-on with a car. He was returning from a training ride just one block from his house in Ramiriquí, Colombia, when he was unable to slow down in time to avoid colliding with a car. Soler was not seriously injured, but he was taken to a Colombian hospital to be checked out. “I feel a little bitter. Let’s hope everything turns out the way it should,” he said. He suffered serious cuts and scrapes, and will have to take five days off the bike in order to rest up. The driver of the car was taken into custody by police, and may face reckless driving charges.

Mauricio Soler, the “Columbian condor,” will be making the move to Caisse d’Epargne in 2010. He was a 2007 Tour de France stage winner, but his 2008 and 2009 seasons were plagued with injuries. Soler is hopeful that his move to Caisse will help him regain his confidence. “I am very happy to arrive at a team as important as Caisse d’Epargne. I hope to be at my best to give back something big to the team. I will have no problem working for (Alejandro) Valverde, everyone knows he’s one of the best riders in the world,” Soler said to Biciciclismo. He also says that riding with Caisse will help take pressure off of him. “They were two difficult years, especially for the injuries to my knee and hand.
