Giving credit to his team, Cavendish slipped past Juan Jose Haedo of Saxo Bank and Alexander Kristoff of BMC.

Cavendish shares, “We took control of the race all day. There were a couple teams that helped and a couple inexperienced teams that took over, but we’re experienced and we knew when we had to take control. We got swamped a couple of times , but all I had to do was follow Renshaw’s wheel and cross the line first, really. If I’m delivered to the right place then I will cross the line first. The most satisfying thing about winning is knowing I can deliver to my team-mates who did the hard work.”

Taking fourth place was Robbie hunter of Garmin-Transition and Jonathan Cantwell of FlyV was…

One of the many American Pro Tour Squads taking much concern for next month’s Amgen Tour of California over the Giro d’Italia is Bob Stapleton’s team HTC-Columbia. Michael Rogers will be heading to California to lead HTC-Columbia general classification efforts.

Lance Armstrong will be heading his team Radio Shack in their home turf with a tough compliment contingent from Garmin-Transitions featuring tough riders headed by Christian Vande Velde which is expected with the “local” Pro Tour outfits.

Giro d’Italia hosted last year’s centennial main event with a non-Italian star studded roster on foreign soil and it seems in 2010 will focus more on the traditional orientation to be racing on their home ground and on other racing field.

Rogers believes that fighting battles in two fronts is a very difficult task and the chances of winning is clearly uncertain if not near unattainable. However, the hope of success is not that elusive, he…

Star sprinter Mark Cavendish of Team HTC-Columbia finally got his first-ever win in a road race this season as he grabbed the 2nd stage victory at the 2010 Volta a Catalunya last Tuesday.

The British rider has had a rough start to his 2010 season, as he was beset by dental and medical problems as well as numerous crashes in the races. However, he seemed to have broken the jinx as he finally found himself on top of the podium as the winner of the Catalunya scond stage. Cavendish finished in front of Team Saxo Bank’s Juan Jose Haedo and Spanish rider Aitor Galdos, who finished in second and third place respectively.

Cavendish is in unfamiliar territory this year as his 2009 season was unlike what he is undergoing now. At this point of the season last year, he had already grabbed six victories, including the Milan-San Remo classic,…

Team HTC-Columbia rider Andre Greipel has voiced his displeasure over being skipped for the team lineup for the recently-concluded 2010 Milan-San Remo. The German cyclist was not part of the lineup of riders that HTC-Columbia had fielded to race in the Italian classic last Saturday, instead opting to go with their star sprinter Mark Cavendish.

Greipel sees this as an indication that he is just getting second billing on the team, and the fact that he has indeed outperformed his British teammate so far this season does not help matters any. The German rider has already shown his winning form in several events this year, starting with an early rush of three stage victories, earning the points jersey, and the overall title as the 2010 Tour Down Under champion. From there, Greipel went on to grab a win at the Trofeo Magalluf-Palmanova in the Mallorca Challenge, plus another…

After testing positive for CERA during the 2008 Tour de France, Italian Riccardo Ricco may be making a comeback to cycling. HTC-Columbia’s Mark Cavendish is not happy about Ricco’s return at all. “He’s like a parasite coming back. It’s not just the fact of what he’s done, because everyone can make mistakes, it’s that he’s not even sorry about. It’s the lack of regret for all the damage that he’s done, that’s what upsets me,” said Cavendish. Ricco’s ban was reduced to only 20 months, which may serve to upset Cavendish even more. He didn’t have much else to say about Ricco; “I don’t lie in bed at night and think about Riccardo Riccò,” he said. “It’s insulting to the passion that I have and the others have for cycling … and for someone else to not give a shit about that, it’s incredibly…

Mark Cavendish had a great season this year, winning six stages at the Tour de France. He says that his goals for the 2010 season will be the same as this season, which is to win as much as possible. “The green jersey will be my goal for next year. For sure, its a priority, but I am not going to sacrifice wins to sprint for points. At the end of the day, I should have won the jersey this year with the wins I had,” Cavendish told Velonews. Cavendish is currently finishing up team training camp in the Canary Islands of Spain. He said that the 2010 Tour route will be tough for him to win the green jersey. The last two weeks will feature a lot of climbs, which does not suit Cavendish very well. “Overall, its a harder…
