Included in the 2012 GT mountain bike lineup is the Performer. Beautifully designed, this bike is a kind of a cruiser BMX/single-speed mountain bike with a retro style. Its traditional high-tensile steel frame tubes and cromo fork are meant to bring the riders decades back.

By mixing into the back end some high-tensile steel, the bike puts some more economy to the package while still keeping all the style. Other features include two sets of oversized pegs, stamped tube caps, and a standard three-piece crank without the alloy chain wheel.

With its nostalgic retro touch, the 2012 GT Performer Mountain Bike is definitely a hot machine. On the other hand, while the retro style works for most riders, the plain seat pillar with a separate clamp may not be a thing of beauty for everyone.

The gussets of the proprietary 6000-series monocoque alloy front end are larger than that of a freeride bike.

Adjustable rebound is offered Marzocchi’s basic 888 and Rocco R fork and damper while braking is handled by Avid’s Elixir 3s with 200mm rotors. Aside from its alloy frame, new cold forged pivot block assembly, and lower price, the 2012 GT Fury Alloy is just a duplicate of the original carbon model.
