Dominique Cornu will be forced to watch from the sidelines as he has officially withdrawn from the UCI Track World Championships due to illness. He was expected to make a bid for the 4,000-meter individual pursuit event and was actually one of the top favorites to win.
Cornu was the only cyclist from Belgium to win a medal at the 2009 World Championships, and had high hopes of winning another medla for his country in this year’s competition, which is scheduled to be held in Denmark this coming March 24.
However, a bout of flu (which had sidelined him since February) has put his plans for success on hold. Cornu had already missed riding in the Ruta del Sol and the recent Paris-Nice event, and is still far from getting back on his feet, never mind going back into the saddle.
