The Halfords Tour Series kicked off at Canary Wharf and Tony Gibb of CyclePremier.com-Metaltek won the individual win with a sprint finish. It was an exciting day as Rapha-Condor-Sharp’s Dean Downing walked away with the orange jersey of Halfords Tour leader. Another highlight was at the first Boardman Bikes sprint race where Team Raleigh’s Liam Holohan was the victor.
The race began with numerous attacks before the peloton swallowed them back. As the finish drew near, come the final laps, there was a lot of aggressive action coming from teams on the lead.
London’s Docklands was a witness to Gibb’s victorious sprint against Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta’s Malcolm Elliott. Elliott had to settle for coming in second wheras Downing came to cross the line at third place. Downing took the leader jersey because Rapha-Condor-Sharp won the team competition. The next stop for the Halford’s Tour will be in Durham on May 27.
