California based company Virus sets a green example with its StayWarm line by using coffee grinds in its constructions as a main ingredient.

The coffee charcoal, as it is commonly referred to as, is used to trap heat in order for its user to endure cooler temperatures. It also makes use of what most consider waste, making it a green choice for the environment.

Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that the proposed UCI stickers of approval will push through on 2011 with the coverage extending from frames, forks, handlebars, stems to cycling apparel. In theory, manufacturers can submit their product concepts and blueprints to UCI on or before January 1st of next year. UCI will look through them and give its go-signal for production that passes the level of standardization UCI is enforcing.

The approval committee will be headed by Professor Manson, vice-president of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland and also a composite expert. The approved products will be listed on th UCI website.

2009 and 2010 products can obtain backdated approval. As for the negative reception over this new process, UCI states that products carrying the UCI label of approval will be an asset to the manufacturers….

Mission Workshop‘s new Orion Jacket uses an intelligent fabric called the Schoeller c_change™. The fabric was designed to adjust to climate change. If the temperature outside becomes warm, the jacket pushes out heat, making it cooler. If the weather becomes colder, the Orion Jacket retains the heat to keep its wearer warm.

The Orion Jacket has a riding design that features a removable hood, a longer back cut and articulated sleeves. Waterproof yet breathable, it has front pockets, an internal iPod pocket, external cellphone pocket and a rear pocket with a zipper. Water literally rolls off the jacket’s fabric.

Seam-sealed with a pit-zip ventilation, it comes in a slim-fit form with four sizes to choose from. MSRP is $400.

The Rapha Cross Jersey is made with lightweight merino fabric, which aids in keeps you dry. It has a racing cut, slim fit design with side panels. Six sizes are offered with reinforced foam pad on the shoulders and pink, red and blue stripes as Rapha’s signature design for the line. The Cross Jersey also has a rear pocket for stowing other valuables and it closes with n O-ring zip. The Cross Jersey also has a drawstring back where you can put it in after use, together with the Cross 3/4 Bib Shorts.

What can you expect from Pistard? Classical cuts, dressy design, subtle colors, high grade fabric with all the technical details to ride in. Some of the apparel are used on professional cyclists or those wanting the feel, but have cuts and the fitting is designed for urban commuting.

Before any article of clothing goes into production, Pistard goes through a extensive testing period. If the results are not up to par, then Pistard will scrap the item and start over. Good for the environment, they only use recyclable packing.
