chalk only for tour of california roads 300x142   Chalk Only for Tour of California RoadsRace technical director Chuck Hodge and organizers of the Amgen Tour of California, suggest that the fans and spectator use chalk instead of paint to write traditional road messages of encouragement during the bike race. “Please don’t use any paint on the roads,” Hodge suggested. “Chalk is ok and encouraged, just be safe about applying it!” He also added that they be mindful about the local residents and to use proper parking spaces and maintain proper trash disposals.

It is common practice for fans to write their favorites’ names, phrases and messages along the race routes, especially on the mountain climbs give support and welcome the bikers to town. Hodge tolerates such practices for as long as removable mediums are used.

Steve Cozza will be joining the Amgen Tour of California next month. Cozza made a speedy recovery from his surgery due to a broken collarbone which he experience during the Tour of Qatar.

Cozza recuperated in Girona, Spain and came back to race at the Volta a Catalunya in March. He was instrumental in helping Tyler Farrar win Scheldeprijs and place fifth in the Tour of Flanders.

Cozza explained how much he wanted to be there for the classics. “I did the Volta a Catalunya, then came up north for Flanders, Scheldeprijs and then Roubaix. They’re pretty hard races to come back in but my forms getting better and that’s good. It was great getting the win with Tyler but then Roubaix was pretty bad. Everybody on the team except me and Danny Pate had some kind of crash and so we couldn’t have had worse luck.”

The roster for the 2010 Amgen Tour of California is complete. The list comprises the world’s best pro cycling team.

The Tour will feature the best cyclists leading their teams. Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer of team RadioShack, Mark Cavendish of Team HTC-Columbia, and Fabian Cancellara of Team Saxo Bank.

The eight-day stage race takes its 800-mile or more route across Nevada City to Thousand Oaks/Westlake/Agoura Hills. It will begin on May 16 and end on May 23. AEG Sports President Andrew Messick is pleased to announce that the move of the event’s dates is to their advantage because this will mean having the riders at their best form.

Actor Patrick Dempsey and Pro Cycling star George Hincapie will be riding in the Breakaway Ride cycling events for charity in April of this year.

The ‘Breakaway Ride presented by Specialized’ cycling event is an accompanying event to the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, which will be held on May 16-23. This is a fundraising event which aims to support the Breakaway from Cancer® charity program of the California tour.

The events are open to the public, and cycling fans will get a chance to ride two actual routes that will be used by the pros on this year’s Amgen Tour of California. There are three distances planned for each event in order to accommodate riders of all levels.

The first ‘Breakaway Ride’ will be held on April 11 and will feature Patrick Dempsey, who is participating in the event to show support for the cause and showcase…
