Saxo Bank and Sunguard have officially announced the new team, which is expected to help Alberto Contador reach for the gold on the 7th of May for the 2011 Giro d’Italia.

A three time winner of the Tour de France, Contador will be backed by racers from six different countries with the exception of Richie Porte, who will not be racing under the team’s name this year.

The 2011 Giro d’Italia team will consists of Laurent Didier, Ukrainian Volodymir Gustov, Kasper Klostergaard and Michael Morkov from Denmark, Italian Matteo Tosatto and Spain’s Daniel Navarro, Jesus Hernandez and of course Alberto Contador…

Alberto Contador Samples Show Plastic Residues, Possible Blood Transfusion

Alberto Contador is back in the hot seat for different allegations relating doping. Now, sources say a urine sample taken from Contador unveiled high levels of plastic residues, which are usually found in cases involving a blood transfusion.

Contador’s urine sample was taken July 20th, towards the end of the 2010 Tour de France. That urine sample later tested positive for clenbuterol.

As of now, Contador is suspended by the international cycling federation due to the discovery of clenbuterol in his system. A lab in Cologne, Germany, was the founder of clenbuterol and plastic residue in Contador’s blood.

When a blood transfusion takes place, it can result in a traceable amount of plastic in the blood due to the blood sitting in a plastic bag. The amount of plasticizer in Contador’s blood was eight times the normal amount.

Contador Tests Positive for Clenbuterol

UCI released that Tour de France winner Alberto Contador tested positive for banned substance Clenbuterol yesterday. Contador issued a statement that the cause for the said positive result was due to contaminated meat he ate during the last Tour de France.

The drug test was taken last July 21st and on August 24, UCI informed Contador that they had found a small trace of clenbuterol in his urine. The amount was 50 picograms. Clenbuterol is a drug which boosts aerobic activity and increases the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen. It also helps metabolize fat and acts as a decongestant for asthma patients. UCI provisionally suspended the Spanish cyclist.

Contador held a press conference to address the numerous reactions and feedback regarding the latest scandal that rocked the cycling community.

The final stage for the Tour de France saw the glory of its riders in Paris. There’s much to look forward to for 2011’s Tour de France and despite the scandals and controversies, it remains the most exciting race of the year.

The 97th Tour de France saw Alberto Contador of Astana taking the crown without a stage win. Amidst all the controversy, Contador raised the bar after winning for the third time. Cancellara Wins Stage 19 Tour de France 2010, Contador Still Wears Yellow Jersey

Stage 19 of the 2010 Tour de France was one to remember. At the start of Stage 19, Alberto Contador had a 8 second lead on Andy Schleck, but Schleck had promised to give his all in the time trial, and going after the yellow jersey.

Other then climbs, Contador is known for his time trial ability, and was favored to win the stage. With winds picking up which affected Schleck, Contador kept riding.

Winning stage 19 was Fabian Cancellara. Contador came in 45th place, finishing 4 minutes, 52 seconds behind, and Schleck finished in 41st, 5 minutes 9 seconds behind Cancellara. Dennis Menchov of Rabobank pushed Samuel Sanchez out of third place.
