WTB Stryker 29er Wheelset

wtb stryker 29er wheelset 200x300   WTB Stryker 29er WheelsetWilderness Trail Bikes (WTB) introduces its latest wheelset named Stryker. The 29er wheel is also offered in 26 inch sizes. It features the “I-beam” rim extrusion and similar to its Laserdisc rim, it also has the “Unbendium Bulge”. It also uses the 4 Axis Drill technology which is doubly drilling the spoke holes to give it a rim/nipple interface and makes it more aligned to the hub flanges.

The rim is made of WT 69, a new aluminum alloy which can accommodate a thinner rim wall yet still maintains its strength. To shave 30% off its weight, the Stryker has triple butted, 2mm blade type spokes. It has 32 spokes on the rear hub with the front hub compatible with 9mm QR or 15OR. Spoke tension is estimated to be 120kgf and with a target weight of 1548 grams.

Specialized introduces the Camber, a 120mm travel trail bike that also comes in a 29er model with 100mm travel fork. It has hydroformed M4 alloy frames and an integrated headset. The 2011 Camber is ideal for the minimalist in its simplicity yet functional design.

The 2011 Specialized Camber Elite does not have the Brain shock technology as part of its design. It is also quite similar in geometry with the Specialized Stumpjumper line. They differ on the wheelbase which is a bit longer.

The Camber Pro models have SRAM 2×10 crankset with Shimano XTR 10-speed derailleur. The lower end models will have 3×10 crankset. The Camber models also have pivot locations formed in tubes instead of welded separately.

The 2011 Specialized Camber models will be priced in between range of cheaper Stumpjumper FSR yet the high end models will be more expensive than the Stumpjumper entry models.

For 2011, Specialized comes out with the new Epic S-Works 29er. The new mountain bike uses Specialized’s FSR suspension design. It only weighs 21.27 pounds or 9.66 kilos in S-Works trim and claims the title of being the lightest 29er with full-suspension. The fork is a RockShox Reba 29 with a carbon crown and steerer while the 26″ model uses the E100 fork.

With a one-piece top tube, the new 29er model also has a remote Mini Brain shock and XC geometry for racing. It also has X12 142+ axles. The front and rear triangles are made from carbon. Specialized also employed its own brand of wheels, Roval, on all Epic bicycles. The Epic S-Works 29er uses a 1,400g Roval Control SL whelset with carbon rims.

The Stumpjumper line for Specialized this 2011 underwent some changes. The Stumpjumper FSR 26” will no longer have the Brain feature and the S-Works models will have Roval Control SL wheels with carbon rims like the Epic line. It will also feature 2×10 drivetrains. The Specialized Stumpjumper S-Works 29er carbon frame weighs 1,055 grams while the 26” model weighs 920 grams.

For middle and high-end models, Specialized incorporates 90mm travel Future Shock with dropouts that are good to go with the OS28 end caps. This results to stiffer wheels and sturdy rides. These wheels can fit RockShox and Specialized forks. 15QR caps are offered for the front wheel while the rear will get standard 135mm choices.

Giant comes out with at 29er for its Trance X model this 2011. The Trance X 29er retains its 100mm travel front and rear like its predecessor. It has Powercore press fit bottom bracket that allows for 2×10 or 3×10 setups. Lighter by 75 grams, the Trance X 29er has a Fox F-125mm fork which functions to create a balance for its 127mm rear travel.

The 2011 Trance X 29er allows for a 2.3” rear tire compatibility. The frame claims to have increased in stiffness by 4 percent. It also comes with a Fox Float RP23 rear shock. It weighs 2,395 grams.

Finally, the 2011 Trance X 29er has head tube angles of ½ degree slacker and cable stops should you run a remote drop post.

Comfortable and steady, the Scale 949 comes with a new seat and chain stays infused together that has a hollow tube along the bend, right above the dropouts. The chainstays measures 438mm.

The Scott Scale 949 has a tapered head tube and uses internal cable routing for a clean and slick front end. It uses the Press Fit BB30 which can allow you to use a wide BB shell and downtube junction. The derailleur cables also exit at the BB shell while the fork features the Reba 20mm to thicken the steering feel and matches the girth of the head tube assembly.

Rumors spread sometime back that Breezer Bikes would release a 29er mountain bike in 2011. Two models would release, the Jet Stream, an aluminum MTB that comes in two different levels (Comp and Sport), and the Cloud 9 which is made of carbon fiber and also comes in two levels (Pro and Limited).


Stated by Breezer, the new 2011 29er mountain bikes are exceptional climbers. The company has shortened the chain stays to address the Achilles heel, giving the Jet and Cloud 9 a overall faster ride. Release date and retail prices will come soon.
