Peugeot Bikes will make a comeback and start releasing different types of bikes due to their recent partnership with Cycleurope. As you may know, Peugeot has been off the market since 2002, and the 2010 models will release later this year in the Spring. The first release by Peugeot is called the “Collectors” which will consist of four models, a road bike, mountain bike, hybrid and city bike. The colors will come in white/black which is linked back to Peugeot’s success with the Tour de France. The range of Peugeot Bikes will make their first debut at the 2010 Eurobike event. Distribution of the line will be available through Cycleurope’s dealers which is in Europe, Asia, Japan and South America. France will have the bikes available through 450 Velo and Oxygen outlets. Rumors of the 2011 Giro d’Italia starting in the US may be coming true after all. 33-year-old US stage racer Christian Vande Velde likes the idea and supports it. Vande Velde told CyclingNews “There would be nothing better than having a prologue down the National Mall in DC. I think it would be the biggest thing for the Giro; it would put the World’s eyes on the Giro.” Angelo Zomegnan, the Giro’s Race Director, says that Washington, D.C. has shown interest in being a host city for the Giro. Adrian Fenty, Washington, D.C.’s Mayor, will be helping out, as he is a cycling fan and competes in triathlons. “It’s my understanding that there have been talks, but nothing is final,” says Fenty’s press officer Mafara Hobson to the DCist. The Giro d’Italia, a race which is often decided in the slopes of the Dolemite, could be getting going off to a start in the United States in 2011. Angelo Zomegnan, the director of the Giro, was quoted in the Italian Sports Daily that the Giro d’Italia has caught the attention of American cities such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Zomegnan and officials have traveled to New York to negotiate with US officials. If the Giro does start in the US in 2011, it will be the first time a grand tour has started somewhere other than Europe. Stay tuned for more news on the 2011 Giro d’Italia.
