Team Milram’s Gerald Ciolek is aiming high this year, with hopes of winning a big race for his team. He also plans to win a stage at the Tour de France. The 23-year-old had only two wins last season; the Trofeo Calvia in the Mallorca Challenge in February, and the second stage of the Vuelta a España. His first Grand Tour win gave him the confidence he needs to start this season off with excitement. New additions to the team, Roger Kluge, Luke Roberts, and Roy Sentjens may prove to be just the support Ciolek needs to win big. The biggest challenge Ciolek will have to face is beating Mark Cavendish, but he remains confident….

While most teams are beginning their 2010 season with a focus on winning, team Saxo Bank will have another major goal on the side – finding a new sponsor. The bank announced on Friday that it will terminate its sponsorship of the ProTour team at the end of the 2010 season. Team manager Trey Greenwood says that finding a new sponsor will be “a big challenge,” but the team remains optimistic. The team was surprised about the bank’s withdrawal, no pun intended, but they are happy with getting the news with enough advance notice. The team went through the same situation in 2008 with CSC before signing with Saxo Bank. Check back often for more news on team Saxo Bank’s sponsor-search….

Australian cyclist Travis Meyer has won the elite men’s Australian road race championship, only days after his 21-year-old brother, Cameron, won the Australian Time Trial Championship. “My first ever road national title and to do it in my first race in elite men, it is an unbelievable feeling. I can’t quite describe what it feels like. To win the road race after Cam’s just won the time trial, to have two national champions in the same team and in the same family, it is just unbelievable,” said Meyer. “I was more doing the team job for Cam Meyer, Matt Wilson and Jack Bobridge, so that’s why I went in the early attack. When the attack went it, it was quite fast up the climb the first time, so I imagine a lot of the guys in the group weren’t interested in going that early – I…

Dan Fleeman, British hill climb champion, will be posting samples of his blood regularly throughout the 2010 season, even though he does not have to. He is also paying for the testing out of his own pocket, just to show that he is committed to anti-doping in the sport. The data will be published on the Website bikepure.org. “I had a difficult season at Cervélo. My results weren’t as good as I would have liked but I’m training hard for 2010 and very motivated to prove myself in Team Raleigh. With the unfortunate distrust there is within the sport, if I have a great season, some small minded people will point the finger saying that as I’m no longer part of the bio-passport, the temptation to dope may be there. I wish to show that, as I have done throughout my career, an athlete can…

Fredrik Kessiakoff, of Sweden, was a mountain bike rider before taking to the road in 2009 with Fuji. He is now back and ready for 2010, with his new team Garmin-Transitions. He saw over 100 days of racing last year, with two Grand Tour appearances. It seems as if he will be the go-to man for Garmin in this year’s Giro d’Italia. He only had a one year deal with Fuji when he was approached by Garmin in April 2009. He took the offer, partly because of the support for clean racing with the team. 29-year-old Kessiakoff will compete in the Pais Vasco before heading over to the Giro. He may also compete in the Vuelta a España later this year….
