The annual BC Bike Race is coming to its fourth annual event in 2010. The organizers of the event have unveiled the route, which will include seven days of mountain biking from Vancouver to Whistler. They have tried to include as much single track as possible. “We had 400 riders last year, and will cap at 550 this year,” says Andreas Hestler, BC Bike Race’s marketing director. “Last year’s event started with a full stage on Vancouver’s North Shore and the legendary locale delivered a fierce opening round. While many riders want to see, feel and taste the North Shore riding, a full stage may not be the best way for the uninitiated. 2010 will include a short 2-3 km North Shore prologue, with just enough up, down and twisty trail to give all participants a taste, while only whetting the appetite for the next…

Joining me for that lunch was Diane Chalmers, our VP of Operations, and Cristina Moore, Development Manager for the Komen affiliate. Cristina informed us that the demographic with the lowest rate of early detection was the one we knew included the women we saw at races every weekend. Seems that the distraction of ‘being fit’ keeps these women…

Two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador is yet to work out a deal with Astana, as they still do not have a ProTour license for 2010. However, it has been reported that Contador has signed a personal contract with Specialized, worth 700,000 Euros, says La Gazzetta dello Sport. The deal is individual, but it is possible that Astana will follow suit and also sign a deal with Specialized, who provides bikes for Quick Step and Saxo Bank. The UCI is expected to announce on Friday the decision on Astana’s ProTour license. Fran Contador, Alberto’s brother and manager, says that it is possible that Alberto may stay with Astana for longer than one year. Contador is also working on bringing Ivan Basso to the team, who will be available to join in 2011.
