Footon-Servetto has announced that they have added Portuguese national champion Manuel Cardoso to their 2010 roster. 26-year-old Cardoso was left without a team in August, as Liberty Seguros withdrew from cycling. He will now be able to continue his four-year pro career in the ProTour. Also joining Cardoso on the Footon-Servetto squad will be Spaniards Iban Mayoz and Vidal Celis.

Spanish professional cyclist Joaquim has moved to Katusha in hopes of getting a chance to ride at the Tour de France. Rodriguez has met with his new team last week, and will report for training camp in January. “It will be like a dream for me to be at the start line of the Tour. I will race it like I did the Giro in 2008, with tranquility and try to win a stage,” says 31-year-old Rodriquez. Check back soon for news on Rodriguez’s progress.

The annual BC Bike Race is coming to its fourth annual event in 2010. The organizers of the event have unveiled the route, which will include seven days of mountain biking from Vancouver to Whistler. They have tried to include as much single track as possible. “We had 400 riders last year, and will cap at 550 this year,” says Andreas Hestler, BC Bike Race’s marketing director. “Last year’s event started with a full stage on Vancouver’s North Shore and the legendary locale delivered a fierce opening round. While many riders want to see, feel and taste the North Shore riding, a full stage may not be the best way for the uninitiated. 2010 will include a short 2-3 km North Shore prologue, with just enough up, down and twisty trail to give all participants a taste, while only whetting the appetite for the next…

Chris King, and Oregon component company, have been supporting the Oregon chapter of Komen for the Cure for seven years now. This year, they have teamed up with for a 2010 “Pretty and Strong” calendar, featuring photos of female cyclists, to produce awareness and raise funds. “It was just a few months ago in a lunch meeting with the Oregon and SW Washington affiliate for Komen for the Cure that we learned of an interesting statistic related to rates of early detection of breast cancer in our region. Joining me for that lunch was Diane Chalmers, our VP of Operations, and Cristina Moore, Development Manager for the Komen affiliate. Cristina informed us that the demographic with the lowest rate of early detection was the one we knew included the women we saw at races every weekend. Norco Bikes has announced that they have added Slopestyle rider Sam Dueck to their roster for the 2010 season. Dueck has had a great season, finishing 5th at Crankworkz Colorado and 2nd at Goat Style in Creston BC. Next year, in 2010, Dueck will continue to compete at a competitive level, this time riding a 2010 Norco 4Hun and an Empire SE. Both Sam and Norco should be pleased coming into the 2010 season.

Floyd Landis, who served a suspension for a doping charge from the 2006 Tour de France, has returned to the road at the 2009 Tour of California. He will reportedly be leaving his current team OUCH, terminating his contract for the remainder of 2009 and 2010. Momentum Sports Group, who owns and operates team OUCH, says that Landis wants to race in longer European races, which the team will not be doing in 2010. “I wish to thank all of the sponsors for their support this year. I would also like to thank everyone at Momentum Sports Group. While I’m excited to pursue other opportunities, I will miss all of my teammates and everyone on staff,” says Landis. Two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador is yet to work out a deal with Astana, as they still do not have a ProTour license for 2010. However, it has been reported that Contador has signed a personal contract with Specialized, worth 700,000 Euros, says La Gazzetta dello Sport. The deal is individual, but it is possible that Astana will follow suit and also sign a deal with Specialized, who provides bikes for Quick Step and Saxo Bank. The UCI is expected to announce on Friday the decision on Astana’s ProTour license. Fran Contador, Alberto’s brother and manager, says that it is possible that Alberto may stay with Astana for longer than one year. Contador is also working on bringing Ivan Basso to the team, who will be available to join in 2011.
