It seems as if Spaniard Oscar Pereiro may not be retiring after all, despite suggesting so over the weekend. He had said that the amount of money that Astana wanted to offer was too low. Whether they raised the amount or not, Pereiro ended up signing a one-year- contract with them. Now he will be able to ride alongside two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador. Pereiro, the 2006 Tour winner, will be meeting with his new teammates on Wednesday in Pisa, Italy at training camp.

English cyclist Bradley Wiggins talks about his 2010 season, and also speaks about some of the competition, most notably Lance Armstrong. He recently spoke at a track meeting in Manchester, and said “I raced ’till very late in the season with the Sun Tour after the World Championships. To be honest it was perfect really as it extended my season and meant less time pissing around as I only had a small concentrated break, but still got everything out of my system that I needed to.” “It was my definitely my longest season and I did roughly a hundred days of racing,” Wiggins adds. He admits to gaining a bit of weight in the off season, attributing it to “lager.” “I had one bad day at the Tour this year and that happened to be when it was the day with the most mountains in it…

31-year-old Spanish cyclist Xavier Tondo has signed with Cervelo for the 2010 season, joining five other Spaniards. Tondo has reportedly been linked to a deal with Astana, but Canadian-backed, Swiss-based Cervelo has confirmed Tondo’s signing. “It’s a dream come true. My principal goal for 2010 is to help Carlos Sastre in the mountains,” says Tondo. Tondo has a pretty impressive resume, winning the 2008 Tour of Portugul and the opening prologue of the Ruta del Sol. He was forced to withdraw from the Vuelta a Espana due to tendinitis. “We are pleased to sign Xavier because we are convinced that he can adapt perfectly to our team. Despite being 31, we are convinced that he can get even better. He had a great 2009 season, with six top-10s in weeklong stage races. He’s also very enthusiastic about how technology can be applied to the…

Oscar Pereiro’s plans to sign with Astana seem to have fallen through, and Pereiro says that he might be retiring. He had high hopes to ride alongside two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, but the amount of money that Astana wanted to offer Pereiro was too low. “I am a realist and when I won the Tour in 2006, I knew that I wasn’t going to win another one because I don’t have the quality that Alberto (Contador) has to try to win various grand tours. I know this is the end for me, but I did all that I could in cycling. It’s not something that’s sad. I am relaxed. I dream of going out or starting a new life,” Pereiro told La Voz de Galicia. “I didn’t hold a pistol to anyone’s head that they sign me. They called me and told…
