Spaniard Toni Colom has asked that the Spanish Cycling Federation drop his temporary doping suspension, and says that there are just too many errors in the case. His provisional suspension came via the UCI back in June, after he tested positive for EPO in April. His blood profile and race schedule are key components in Colom’s suspension. Spanish newspaper Diario de Mallorca reports that Colom and his attorney have filed a 50-page appeal. Colom maintains his innocence, and says that the case is “riddled with flaws,” saying that it’s a “disaster.” He has asked the Real Federacion Española to issue him a license for 2010, as well as to give him financial acquittal….

Despite suffering from pneumonia earlier this week, it seems that Stuart O’Grady‘s condition has improved enough to start training again. Which means that he’ll be able to take part in the Tour Down Under in 2010. “It’s just been a case of no physical activity – just lying around the house has been frustrating. This morning I got the all clear from the doctor to actually start riding again very lightly; there’s still a bit of an infection in the body,” said O’Grady. “It’s most important now not to push my body too far into the red and past the limit, which could be detrimental to the rest of the season. I definitely won’t be in the form I’ve been in the last few years. Last year I said I hadn’t enjoyed the build up I wanted before the Tour Down Under and…

Next season, his focus will be the Tour Down Under, Tour de France, and the World Championships. In his three seasons with Columbia-HTC, Henderson did not get the opportunity to shine with riders like Mark Cavendish on the team. He feels right at home with his new team, and feels that Team Sky has the support he needs….

The race “which brought stage racing back to the United States” has been canceled once again for next year. Even though they have secured a place for the race on the UCI’s 2010 calendar, organizers were not able to secure sufficient funds for the race. “This was not an easy decision, but one that was best in the current economic climate. The Board of Directors and our advisors did all we could to tailor a race to fit within the economic realities of today and we are understandably disappointed in this announcement, but we are committed to bringing back the Tour as soon as possible,” said Tom Saddlemire, board member of the Tour de Georgia Foundation, Inc. The last Tour de Georgia was held in 2008, and was won by Team High Road rider Kanstantin Siutsou. The 2009 event was canceled due to sponsorship issues….

Mark Renshaw, of Columbia-HTC, will unfortunately be missing the Tour Down Under in January, due to recovering from the Epstein-Barr virus. He was diagnosed earlier this month, and seems to be recovering just fine; he is “showing good initial progress,” according to Team Columbia-HTC doctor Helge Riepenhof. Renshaw was a huge help in Columbia-HTC’s record 85 victories this year. He was absent from training camp this month while he recovers from the virus, and will continue to recover during the first few races of the season. His team is keeping a close eye on his recovery, and his blood tests show good results. “We don’t see his 2010 season goals in any danger. He would have loved to race in Tour Down Under but we are confident that he will once again show great performances in the Grand Tours as a lead out for…
