Stuart O’Grady was released Wednesday from a Spanish hospital after collapsing at a MotoGP event. Australian Cycling Federation officials say that O’Grady suffered a seizure after a “hot lap,” and that the stress on his body may have been what caused it. Following an MRI scan and a series of tests, O’Grady was given the green light to leave. “When the ride finished of course I could feel my heart rate soaring, my blood pressure rising, but I didn’t give it much more thought. But then I started having blotchy vision and 20 minutes later I had a seizure and collapsed. It was possibly the extreme ‘hyper tension’ or maybe an old scar on my brain from one of my previous crashes but there’s no use speculating or guessing, it’s happened and that’s that,” says O’Grady. 27-year-old Italian cyclist Matteo Priamo has been given a four-year doping ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS. An official source has said that Priamo is banned for supplying the banned blood-booster EPO CERA to his former team mate at CSF, Emmanuelle Sella. Sella, shortly after winning three stages at the Giro d’Italia, tested positive for the drug last year in July. He confessed to using the drug and cooperated with authorities to name Priamo as his supplier, thus earning himself a reduced one-year suspension. Sella has since returned to cycling with Italian team Carmiooro Style-A. The CAS has said that it is “sufficiently established” that Matteo Priamo has violated two articles of the World Anti-Doping Code. Priamo’s suspension has been backdated to begin on February 27th.
