After almost three years of working on carbon fiber, Intense Cycles has finally introduced the Carbine all-mountain bike for 2012. Just like all Intense full suspension bikes, the Carbine is constructed on the tested VPP suspension system. Its travel settings are either at 140 or at 152mm.

Also tested is the locking collet bolt axle system used so that the pivots will keep rolling smoothly. Maintenance is made easier by the sealed angular contact bearings well matched with grease fittings. To maximize stiffness at the crank, the bottom bracket features a BB92 press fit shell.

Intended for trail, AM, and Enduro, the 2012 Intense Cycles Carbine Carbon Fiber Mountain Bike is one exciting new item on the market. Other features are a built-in FLK:GRD down tube protector, replaceable G1 dropouts, dropper post cable routing, and water bottle mounts.

Santini has created one of the best bib shorts for 2011 called Jam. What makes these bibs amazingly comfortable is the new wonder material, which is a seamless knitted polyester fabric, used in the garment.

On the inner section near the pad, a high-tension Lycra is used. Support from the knee upwards is added by the bonded ladder patterns on the outer thighs following the shape of the thigh. Throughout the design, excellent comfort is carried by the bibs with its soft-touch mesh bib and braces.

Very impressive, the NAT pad has a core made from multi-density gel and raised tubular cups on the surface attached to the shorts. This way, slippage is prevented. With its outstandingly comfortable material and a dazzling pad, the 2011 Santini Jam Bib Short is highly recommended for huge challenge rides.

2011 Northwave Touring Shoes

Northwave has released touring shoes for 2011, which are also ideal for audaxing, commuting, and regular sport or leisure riding. With its road shoe style, the shoes are firm enough to make pedaling as nice as possible.

Though stylish enough in its black overall with white and gray highlights, this practical touring and audax shoe is not complete worry-free. Its three-strap Velcro closure, for example, does not allow easy adjustment as much as ratchet closures do.

Furthermore, cleat compatibility can be an issue, especially if the pedals are not Shimano SPDs. To some riders, the cleat bolt or insole can be a source of nuisance. However, the 2011 Northwave Touring Shoes are easier to walk in compared to typical road shoes. The shoes have a nicer and stiffer sole, too.
