The ITU Triathlon World Cup Series will be at Ishigaki, Japan for round three of the series. For Ishigaki, it is its 15th time as a World Cup host. Located 250 kms east of Taiwan, Ishigaki will be the venue for the largest triathlon even in Japan.

Ishigaki’s residents are avid supporters of triathlons which as shown by thousands of locals welcoming the race with cheers and fanfare. After the race, star athletes of the events will entertain and interact with the local children sharing their love of the sport and visit schools as well.

On Sunday April 25 will be the kick off of both men and women’s categories of the elite’s races with the women set to start at 1:30pm local time. Juri Ide of Japan, last year’s winner, will not be racing due to plantar fasciitis. The absence of Ide does not affect the chances of Japan to score…

Andy Potts of USA and Samantha Warriner of New Zealand won the Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans race. Potts and Warriner credited their wins to half-marathon endeavors when it really counted. The triathlon covered 1.2 mile swim, 56 miles on bike and a 13.1 mile run.

For Potts, he began with confident strokes at 23:58 swim time. He ventured into the T1 with a lead over Graham O’Grady of New Zealand. Potts was taken over by Kiwi Terenzo Bozzone on the bike but it was only temporary. Potts soon outran everyone at 1:12;40 half-marathon, making him finish first at 3:43:44.

Second place went to Bozzone and Paul Amey of United Kingdom took third place. Australia’s Chris McCormack failed to finish the race. He did not continue to see the run through and turned up ninth on the bike.

Paula Findlay of Canada and Joao Silva of Portugal won their first World Cup title at the 2010 Monterrey ITU World Cup. Findlay and Silva started in similar fashion, making good time by taking the lead on the run.

Hayley Peirsol of USA took the lead during the swim and was first out of the water. With a 40-second advantage over the rest during the transition period, Peirsol did her best to keep the distance between her and a chase group that included Denmark’s Line Jensen, Russia’s Marie Rabie, and Findlay. Unfortunately, the group behind her came up strong and fast, making her drop the lead during the run.

Ai Ueda of Japan was first during the run but was soon overtaken by Findlay who kept the lead with her strong strides, right up to the finish line. Jensen tried to go for silver but Ueda’s fast run won her second place…

In Monterrey, Mexico, the ITU Triathlon American Youth Olympic Games Qualifier is well under way. Adriana Barraza and Kevin McDowell outshone the other triathletes on a sunny afternoon after a week of rain for the 2,000 person age-group race kicking off on Saturday.

The 2010 Youth Olympic Games opens in August this year in Singapore and the event is giving the participating youth the opportunity to obtain one of eight qualifying places for their country. The top finishers for their respective countries in the men and women’s category races are awarded a spot for their National Federation in the said games.

In the women’s sprint – distance contest, Mexico’s Adriana Barraza won with a missile run to the finish. It is expected to offer the best triathletes featuring top competitors including the winners of the 2007 and 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 races, Andy Potts and Terrenzo Bozzone together with former Ford Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack.

In the men’s field, Dirk Bocket of Luxembourg, last year’s seventh placer in Kona and Paul Amey of Great Britain, along with four time world champion Bryan Rhodes of New Zealand will be vying for victory as well.

In the women’s category, the racing field will be graced by Yvonne Van Vlerken of Netherlands.
