Lance Armstrong joined forces with Quiznos with the goal to breathe life back into the event which was pivotal in American cycling, the Colorado-based Coors International Bicycle Classic. The upcoming event is called the Quiznos Pro Challenge and is slated to take place on August 22nd-28th, 2011. The seven-day event will be a mixture of sprint, mountain and downtown stages which will take advantage of Colorado’s natural treasures.
Governor Bill Ritter announced how Armstrong is committed to bring back international pro cycling into the heart of Colorado, “Lance and I were committed to bringing this stage race to fruition in 2011, and today’s announcement is a great victory for Colorado and the sport of cycling.”

The Tour of Ireland which was supposed to take place on middle of August was cancelled due to sponsorship shortage. However, organizers of the Tour are hopeful that the event will push through in 2011.
The organizers issued a statement regarding the cancellation. “Despite significant commercial and public sector funding, current economic conditions have meant that the additional investment required to make the event viable has not been forthcoming in time for this season.” Alan Rushton, one of the organizers said, “We fully intend to bring it back for 2011 when the private sector environment is stronger.”

The 2010 Tour of Missouri which was supposed to be scheduled on August 31 to September 5 was slated for cancellation due to inadequate funding of the project. The Missouri state tourism closed its annual budget but without the $1 million needed by the organizers Medalist Sports. This closes the door to the race unless a window opens and a major sponsor gives the deficit amount.
Medalist Sports even tried to raise the needed funds for the event and fans spearheaded a “Save the Tour of Missouri” campaign. Still, the $1.5 million budget gap was too much. Lieutenant governor Pete Kinder penned and open letter and urged fans to let their voices be heard so that Governor Jay Nixon might be able to do something to rectify the situation.

The Deer Creek Challenge debuts on August 29. Billed to be the “toughest one-day century ride”, the 100-mile ride with climbs of 12,741 feet will take place in Denver, Colorado.
The non-timed event will begin at Jefferson County’s Deer Creek Canyon. There will be three courses to choose from. The first course is called the Century Ride which has the largest elevation. The second one is the Metric Century with 7,053 feet climb for the 64-mile route. Last but not the least is the 33-mile Option which offers a 4,200 feet climb.
The registration for the Deer Creek Challenge opened last March 17. the organizers gave a limit of 3,000 cyclists for the once in a lifetime challenge. An estimated 600 cyclists gathered on the streets of London last Friday to commemorate the three deaths of cyclists during the London Critical Mass. The event was initiated after bloggers and forum posters sent out messages to pay respects to the three cyclists who died in recent road accidents.

On March 9, Muhammad Ahmad suffered a deadly collision with a truck on the corner of Weston Street and Snowsfields, almost in the same vicinity as that of Prof. Vilaseca’s accident. The cyclosportive Cotswold Spring Classic will get into gear on April 5, 2010. It will follow the pattern as the previous year’s sportive. What made the event a success was the fact that it was the only sportive cyclists can join on Easter Monday.
There will be two routes you can take, 179km and 105km. Feeding stations are provided for together with neutral service support, electronic timing and photography. Motorcycle outriders from the National Escort Group will be there and a finisher’s goodie bag will be given as well.

Due to the challenging weather in 2009, the Exmoor Beast Cyclosportive will remain in its original season for the 2010 calendar in late autumn and this time it will be on the 31st of October.
Similar to 2009’s set up, the HQ for the Cyclosportive will be located in Butlins, Minehead. This is to address any accommodation issues. Bike Shed will be providing on-the-road support for the cyclists while Massage Clinic will take care of the post-ride services and care.
Interested applicants for this event will undergo a two-month training program, facilitated by the organizers. There will also be the odd training ride with some famous cyclists. As requested by many enthusiasts, the half pint at the end returns for the event.
