In the last 2 years POC has expanded its protective gear selection to meet the growing demands of downhill, freeride, and BMX riders. In store for 2010 is the Cortex DH MIPS helmet by POC. In addition, the liner houses a polycarbonate layer, covering the multi-impact Super EPP core. POC’s downhill helmet will be offered in an array of colors and graphics.
Chris Jongewaard, an Australian pro cross-country mountain biker, will remain in jail after he lost an appeal after being involved in a hit-and-run accident back in 2007. The accident involved Jongewaard’s former training partner, Matthew Rex. While celebrating Rex’s 22nd birthday, Jongewaard drove his car into Rex, leaving him with career-ending injuries; a broken back, fractured leg, broken hip, a punctured lung, internal bleeding, and severed arteries. “It’s a significant fact that, for all Mr. Jongewaard knew, he had left someone seriously injured and lying on the roadway, exposed to further damage from motor cars,” says Chief Justice John Doyle. Jongewaard will remain incarcerated until at least June 2010.
