Lance Armstrong Attracts 5,000 Cyclists from Twitter

Lance Armstrong and Robbie McEwen held a impromptu ride on Saturday in Australia that brought 5,000 cyclists due to Lance Armstrong’s announcement of the ride on the micro blogging platform Twitter. Lance Armstrong has organized many events in the past, but he was shocked to see the turn out.

“I personally don’t think that anyone will top the turnout we had today. That was a huge amount of people,” Armstrong said. “The field stretched for kilometers and kilometers … when we turned back there were just streams of people.” Said Lance Armstrong.

Cyclists came together at Wigley Reserve right outside of Adelaide where Tour Down Under will start next week, and from their followed Lance Armstrong and Robbie McEwen to Semaphore Park and back, about a 19 mile ride. A few crashes did take place, but injuries to those were not serious.

“It was chaos, but controlled chaos. It’s certainly the biggest one that I’ve been a part of,” said Armstrong. “It was cool. Everybody had a good time and more or less stayed safe.”

lance armstrong will compete in 2011 or 2012 hawaii ironman Lance Armstrong will Compete in 2011 or 2012 Hawaii IronmanSeven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, announced that he’ll compete in Hawaii’s Ironman after he races in his last Tour de France.

“I will be in Kona (the Ironman start and finish town) 15 months after the final Tour (de France) … if it’s 2010, then it will be Kona 2011,” Armstrong told AAP.

“If it’s 2011, it will be Kona 2012″, he continued.

Armstrong was a tri-athlete in his teens before he pursued his pro cycling career. It will take a significant amount of training to prepared for the 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km marathon run, which makes up the Ironman, even for him, the 38-year-old cyclist said.

In 2005, after calling his cycling career quits, Armstrong competed in marathons, finishing with respectable times.

Now, Armstrong looks into his feature once again. His goal for the Ironman, he said, is to complete it. Not necessarily concerned with his Ironman results, Armstrong did mention the possibility of finishing among the top 10.[...]

The new Team RadioShack jersey did a press conference, well not really but the video provided by Radio Shack uses the jersey in true interview form, while the cameo role is by none other than Lance Armstrong. As the media interviews the Team RadioShack jersey using corny yet funny lines, Lance Armstrong is in the back of the room checking his cell phone and shaking his head. We must say, the video is overall funny, and Lance’s small part just added to it.

Lance Armstrong Talks About His Comeback That Almost Didn't Happen

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong enjoyed a nice third place at this year’s Tour. However, it almost didn’t even happen, according to his team manager and friend, Johan Bruyneel. Lance suffered a broken collarbone back in March which resulted from a crash in the Vuelta Castilla y León. The injury nearly put the brakes on the star’s comeback. “If I didn’t enjoy it I wouldn’t be back. There were days that I didn’t enjoy. I had the first major crash of my career. Sitting on the side of the road in Spain, headed to an anonymous hospital, I didn’t enjoy that, and I wanted to never come back. But to be honest, it was a conversation I had with (Bruyneel), and he said, ‘You have no choice in this issue, you have to come back.’ Outside of that period, I did enjoy it,” Lance said. “They were not easy conversations,” Bruyneel said. After the crash, Armstrong went to Bruyneel’s house in Madrid for dinner and wine, and the next day, Armstrong flew home to the US for surgery. “The week after the surgery, first there was the recovery, then getting back on the bike and looking forward toward his only one chance to be competitive in the Tour, and that meant he had to start the Giro. That was not very bright to look at, and all of sudden I kind of felt like he went quiet. There was a certain distance I had not felt with him in a long time. I could also feel that the people around him started to be worried. I discovered that he was giving second thoughts to the comeback. At the same moment I was in the hospital with my wife, she was having a baby. I remember I had a few phone calls from the hospital with him, and at a certain moment, I could feel he was really down. I had a feeling he was ready to walk away. And I said, ‘You have no option. You cannot not do the comeback,’” Bruyneel said. What really sealed the deal is when Bruyneel reminded Lance of his own quote; “Pain is temporary, but quitting lasts forever.”

Bob Stapleton Says Lance Armstrong's Comeback Good for Cycling

In an interview with CNN, Columbia-HTC’s owner Bob Stapleton is happy about Lance Armstrong’s comeback, and he believes that Lance is “passing the mantle” to Mark Cavendish. “I think it is very interesting that the biggest name in the sport is embracing, and indeed passing the mantle, to the second biggest name in the sport. From Lance to Mark,” Stapleton said. “Lance’s return has brought lots of publicity back to the sport and taken it back onto the world stage. It wasn’t just Lance’s comeback, but the way he raced that was so amazing. Viewing figures for the Tour de France went up 40 per cent in the States this year and brought cycling to the attention of the world’s media, peaking at the Tour,” he added. He believes that Lance’s return hyped up other teams, encouraging them to try harder and make headlines. “Mark won multiple stages at both the Giro and the Tour, both races that Lance was riding in. And, because the spotlight was shining on cycling, it gave all the other teams an ideal opportunity to showcase their qualities. Hopefully it will all happen again in 2010!,” said Stapleton.[...]

Lance District: Trek x Lance Armstrong

The Trek District x Lance Armstrong bike is the latest Armstrong inspired masterpiece to surface, coined “Lance District”. The mostly matte black in color bike is beautifully accented with ARMSTRONG yellow such as the carbon fiber composite yellow belt drive. Lance’s Trek District uses a carbon fiber District frame, labeled with dark gray Trek decals. Without a doubt, the bike looks outstanding. So what’s the bad news? The “Lance District” is a one of a kind and Trek has no intention of producing more – It’s only eye candy.
