Cycling in winter is fun every in Toronto’s closed-circuit velodrome, as featured by Le Roi de Glace, which literally means “king of the ice”. In this high-energy documentary, which is approximately 25 minutes long, Dale K. Sood captures Toronto’s world-famous ice rink velodrome racing.

Every winter, for almost two decades now, Toronto cyclists engage in wild and risky racing activities on a closed velodrome-style circuit. In order to prepare for the ice rinks, the cyclists increase traction on the ice by taking screws to their tires.

For 2012, this unique winter cycling event has raised funds for Charlie’s Freewheels, a free bicycle mechanic training program dedicated to the at-risk youth. Video after the jump.

Foffa Bikes has released the latest model of its signature fixed gear/singlespeed frame, the 2012 Foffa Prima Track Frameset. Available in five sizes, this track frame comes with 1in threaded forks and is designed for 700c wheels.

While it is a lightweight track frame, the Prima is designed to be very strong, thanks to its compact geometry and Cr-Mo 4130 double butted tubing. It is drilled both for a front and rear brake, and is top tube drilled for the rear brake cable’s inner routing.

Major features of the Prima include 5mm thick track end dropouts, 27.2mm seat tube, 68mm English BB, and 120mm rear spacing. This wet-painted track frame comes with a glossy and durable finish, and its cool color options include crème, azure, and green.

After its success in 2011, the Ride + Style Fixed Gear Event will be hosted by Red Bull in Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco on April 28, 2012. Joining last year’s partners, SF Bike Coalition and Oakley, are Specialized Bicycles, SolRepublic, and Chrome Bags.

For the 2011 event, over 50 of the most stylish and fastest fixed gear riders in the world were invited to participate, including those from New York, San Francisco, Japan, and Portland.

For 2012, non-invited riders are given an opportunity to qualify for the event’s track portion on April 26 at the Red Bull Minidrome. Top 15 will be invited to compete against 2011’s best ten riders. Also, top artists like APEX, Chor Boogie, Jet Martinez, and Max Ehrman have collaborated to redesign the course both for fixed freestyle riders and for racers.

Leader has released its best-selling model, the 725TR fixed gear bike, in two limited edition colors for its store in Japan. Each of the two colors, Ice Silver Metallic and Rosso Corsa, will be available in 30 bikes.

While the Ice Silver Metallic is German sports car-inspired, the Rosso Corsa is based on the red French and Italian sports cars during the ’80s. Both of the color variations will be available in four sizes, 51, 53, 55, and 58cm.

The exclusive 725TR fixed gear bike frames will be separately released stateside All the carbon fiber forks, suede saddles, and drop bars of the 725TR, when developed as a complete bike, are made by Leader.
