England-based Milk Bikes might have produced some of the lowest maintenance commuter bikes out.

According to Milk Bikes founders Mark Meadows and Richard Craven, the company’s goal was to design and market a bike that can easily be taken to work and back on the daily. The two are long time cyclists and commuters who started Milk in 2010 in order to pursue their love for riding to work without the hassle of a high maintenance ride.

A lot of labor and man-hours have been utilized in order to create the designs for the bike’s frameset and forks as well as components to be used for the bike. Currently there are two prototypes being built and tested in Essex, UK. Both of which will be available this spring.

Milk’s frame and fork is constructed from a double-butted 4130 cro-moly tubing coupled with a geometry designed to provide riders great comfort without hampering the performance. These Milk bikes also have the ability to have up to 700C or 26” wheels attached to it. The frames are also belt-ready and ships complete with the necessary cable guides, bottles, fender bosses and rack.

The new commuter bikes from Milk also show promise because of its unique Gates’ carbon belt drive system, which is basically lubrication free and makes it last longer than a normal bike chain would. Milke commuter bikes also sport Shimano 8-speed internal hub gears and are fairly easy to set up. The removal of the use of derailleurs and sprockets also reinforces and reminds owners that they are thoroughly low maintenance.

The bikes are home to Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes that are easy to maintain and setup and are ready for all types of weather. They employ 700Cx32 measurements with built-in puncture protection for a smooth ride no matter the terrain. A Supernova E3 hub dynamo for both head and rear are the lights paired on this ride.

Last but not the least, each bike comes with their own unique feature. One bike model has been designed to have drop bars paired with an 8-speed STI-style shifter from Versa while the latter has a Shimano trigger shifter coupled with flat bars making for an improved riding experience.
