The Zaskar line was instrumental in making mountain biking cool in the 1990s. Its reputation continues to make waves as GT releases the 2011 Zaskar Mountain Bikes.
The Zaskar line consists of the Zaskar Sport, Zaskar Comp, Zaskar Elite, Zaskar Expert, Zaskar Carbon Pro and the Zaskar Carbon Team. All Zaskar models retain the Triple Triangle detailing, internal cable routing and a 1.5″ to 1.125″ tapered headtube. A 29er model is also a first for Zaskar which can be purchased in carbon or a aluminum frame. It also features replaceable interchangeable dropouts if you want it for singlespeed.
The 2011 Zaskar Sport retails at £799.99 and is spec’d with Shimano Deore, disc brakes, Allterra finishing kit and SR Raidon Air fork. The Zaskar Comp has a hydroformed 6061 T6 alloy frame and will retail for £999.99.
Kinesis Superlight tubing can be found on the alloy models for the GT Zaskar Elite and the Zaskar Expert. The price tags for both are £1299.99 and £1699.99, respectively. The Expert specs include RockShox Recon Solo Air fork, 2x10spd and mix drivetrain of SRAM X7/9.
The GT 2011 Zaskar Carbon features a new carbon layup process, the FOC Ultra (Force Optimized Carbon) which saves off excess resin on the molding process of about 300g. This gives you a medium sized frame of about 1.1kg.
The Zaskar Carbon Team has RockShox SID ork, Shimano XTR 2×10 groupset with Crank Bros Cobalt 11 carbon seatpost and Crank Bros Cobalt wheels, bar and stem.
The top-end GT Zaskar Carbon Pro retails for £2999.99 and guarantees extreme riding and high performance with a Fox 32 RL Fit fork, Formula R1 brakes, SRAM X9 2×10 crankset, DT Swiss K1600 wheels, Shimano Deore XT drivetrain and Crank Bros & Syncros contact points.
