Van Dessel Full-Tilt Boogie Cyclocross Bike
The Full-Tilt Boogie is a carbon cyclocross race bike from Van Dessel Cycles which will be available in the middle of August. It took the company two years to come up with this bike, surpassing skeptics and critics with a design inspired from the Gin & Trombones cyclocross bike.
The Full-Tilt Boogie features smaller tube diameters with a 1.5’ tapered headtube. It has a BB30 bottom bracket shell and no area for water bottles since the bike is made to be fast and slick. It promises excellent performance over rough terrain and weighs between 1,150 to 1,250 grams. It comes in five sizes of 50, 52, 54, 56 and 58 cm. Vittoria XM tubular will be made available in all complete bikes.
The top tube was hardened in the center area where possible bars can collide should there be an accident. The wall diameter was adjusted to accommodate a thickening on the wall to make sure that it can withstand the force of an impact. For just the frameset, the Full-Tilt Boogie costs $1,999.00. For the Comp with Rival, it will retail for $3,599.00.
Adam Myerson, racer and industry personality, creatively showed that cable routing can be housed from the top tube up to the rear derailleur. This allowed for easy shifting without the hassle of grit, mud and dirt. This “Myersonian routing” is now applied across new Van Dessel cyclocross frames.
Myerson humbly comments, “I’m getting way too much credit since this is a trick mountain bike racers were using 20 years ago. I just had the power of the Internet to document the modification. What I did see though, was people spending a lot of money for sealed cable systems that didn’t seem to me to work any better or last any longer than more affordable ones. Get rid of the split cables and you get rid of places for contamination, with a more working-class approach. I think that matches well with the workhorse mentality of Van Dessel bikes in general.”
