The innovative wheel sensor technology producer SoundOfMotion has introduced the VeloComputer Bluetooth bicycle Sensor Version 3.6 of its series of 1 degree precision this July 2010. The sensor is meant to be mounted on a rear wheel along the chainstay of a bike to inclusively accommodate the wheel and pedal strokes sensors set into one component. It has a 1 degree accuracy and cadence during pedal operation. It uses the classic Bluetooth 2.0 in sending cycling data to the VeloComputer mobile application.

The sensor reacts to a magnetic field from a magnet installed to the wheel and transmits the angle of rotation with a 1 degree precision and accuracy. Amplifying the magnetic field are two smaller magnets mounted on opposites sides of a wheel maintaining balance. This makes SoundOfMotion far more advance than any traditional cycling computers.

The new software which you can download for free is a mobile application that targets users who likes to keep track of their trips and jaunts in alpine sports (mountain bicycling, snowboarding alpine and cross-country skiing) from their Android phones.

AlpineSport features GPS and accelerometer to give you real time data on cadence, strides, G-forces and air time. The application also measures speed, time, distance, altitude, climb, drop and other relevant information for the active athlete. Sharing of your performance data and other information is easy by uploading the CSV file online and through Twitter.

schleck wins stage 17 contador keeps yellow jersey 300x215   Schleck wins Stage 17, Contador keeps Yellow JerseyAndy Schleck (Saxo Bank) vowed that he would put Alberto Contador (Astana) off his back on the Col du Tourmalet, Schleck kept his word by winning stage 17 of the 2010 Tour de France.

Despite the hazy dump weather conditions, the two titans were seen clashing their way down on one of the Tour’s notorious mountains. Schleck and Contador were just 8 seconds apart in the general classification and to the delight of the excited crowd, the Luxemborg rider challenged Contador who followed him throughout the race. The defending champion Astana rider denied Schleck a glorious win by crossing the line tailing him at half a bike length to keep the yellow jersey.

Vaude, a German company known for its backpacks, will soon release a new hydration pack, called the Tracer. The Vaude Tracer Hydration Pack features a novel Ergo vent suspension system, adjustable hip belt for fitting, two air permeable foam elements that benefits ventilation.

In total, you can pick from four different sizes of the Vaude Tracer hydration pack, starting at 12 liters and up to 28. Your choice is clearly upon what your carrying. Underneath the pack is storage meant to hold tools with a built in organizer, separate area for the hydration system, area to attach a helemt to the front, and a integrated rain cover.

Merida unveils three new mountain bikes for 2011, which are the One-Twenty, Twenty-Nine, and Matts Scandium.

The Merida 2011 One Twenty uses full carbon fiber, weighing in at 1.86kg, and has 100mm of travel. Adding in a 18 inch sample fitted and DT Swiss M210 shocks brings the overall weight to 2.1kg. Comparing to the Ninety-Six, the One Twenty is 20% stiffer.

Fusing tube to tube construction and monocoque, the downtube also contains a double chamber. The process of tube to tube was achieved by using high modulus carbon fiber. A relaxed head angle (at 69 degrees) is one of the changes. This feature adds stability to riding downhill or racing.

First released was the Rapha backpack, and since then they are back but in a larger size for those long commutes and hauling your goods. Same design and fabrics as its predecessor, the Rapha Large Backpack adds additional features that the original size does not have.

When constructing the large Rapha backpack, they made sure it was lightweight even with the increase size (17 liters, compared to the regular 11). A fold out compartment was added that holds up to 5 liters, and can hold a pair of shoes.

The main pack fabric is tough and waterproof, and since it is black, Rapha added reflective pin dots to be seen riding at night. Added for additional safety is light loops on the straps and rear panel.
