The list of riders for Team Sky that will be competing in June will not include Bradley Wiggins, the team’s Tour captain. Wiggins will be making his preparations for Tour de France same as 2009. His last race was the Giro d’Italia which he repeated this year.
The June races begins with the Tour of Luxembourg wherein Team Sky has Kurt-Asle Arvesen, Kjell Carlstrom, Juan Antonio Flecha, Simon Gerrans, Thomas Löfkvist, Serge Pauwels, Ian Stannard and Ben Swift as contenders.
Marcus Ljungqvist, winner of the 2002 Tour of Luxembourg and directeur sportif for Team Sky is hopeful over the line-up. “We have guys who are capable of riding a good prologue, and a good GC, so we will see what happens on Wednesday and then take things from there. It will be interesting to see how things go.”
On June 6 to 13, Team Sky will be sending John-Lee Augustyn, Sylvain Calzati, Russell Downing, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Peter Kennaugh, Nicolas Portal, Geraint Thomas and Davide Vigano to the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré.
As for the Tour of Suisse on June 12-20, riders Kurt-Asle Arvesen, Kjell Carlstrom, Juan Antonio Flecha, Simon Gerrans, Thomas Löfkvist, Lars-Petter Nordhaug, Serge Pauwels and Ben Swift will represent Team Sky.
In Netherlands, the team’s sprinters will take the spotlight at the Ster Elektrotoer on June 16-20. Russell Downing, Mathew Hayman, Greg Henderson, Peter Kennaugh, Ian Stannard, Chris Sutton and Davide Vigano are on the team’s roster.
The national time trial championships will be held on June 23. To ride for Finland will be Kjell Carlstrom, for Italy, Dario Cioni and Edvald Boasson Hagen and Lars-Petter Nordhaug for Norway.
