Miguel “Big Mig” Indurain will join the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in Madrid. “Triathlon is a formidable and spectacular sport and I am delighted to be one of the guests at the Casa de Campo in Madrid for this impressive day of world championship action,” said the five-time Tour de France winner.
Indurain will race under the Laureus team. It will be for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which is also the official charity partner of the International Triathlon Union.
Indurain adds, “It is great to be able to watch so many great athletes and to meet the triathletes from the Laureus team who will be taking part. I know they all will enjoy a wonderful and challenging day, and more importantly they will do so much good by raising funds for the vital work that Laureus does.”
Indurain hopes that his previous experience as a trialist will be an advantage to the Laureus team. “Big Mig” took home the gold at the tirst Olympic Time Trial in 1996 at the Atlanta Summer Games.
“I hope all the triathletes in the field and the spectators will understand a little more now of what Laureus does for disadvantaged young people around the world, which is why our partnership with the International Triathlon Union is so important. This is something in which I believe passionately, and I am delighted that this major world event in my country can play its part,” said Indurain.
