What Floyd Landis revealed in his email regarding his admission to doping certainly got everyone’s attention and more. Steve Johnson, CEO of USA Cycling, to whom the email was addressed, gave a statement concerning the delicate matter and stresses how USA Cycling continues to implement its zero tolerance policy when it comes to dopin in the sport of cycling.
Johnson said: “In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Code of Athlete’s Rights, USA Cycling does not and will not discuss doping allegations, investigations or any aspect of an adjudication process.”

Filippo Pozzato of Katusha won stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia. His win was special for personal reasons. “This win is special because the Giro is special to me. It’s the race I went to watch with my father. I’m having a difficult time but I won’t say more about that, it’s personal. But I’ve won with my heart.”said the Italian. Another reason for his victory to be special is the fact that it is the first individual stage won by an Italian rider in the Giro.

The XTERRA U.S. Pro Series goes to Waco, Texas for the second race on May 23 at Cameron Park. Making an appearance is nine out of the top 10 athletes in the Series. Brian Smith will be absent due to an injury to his pectoralis major tendon after palcing third at the XTERRA West Championships.
Conrad “the Caveman” Stoltz will be there. Hot on his heels is Josiah Middaugh. Middaugh underwent surgery for removal of a bursa sac but proved his recovery was a success by coming in second fastest run time in Vegas last April 25. Seth Wealing and Nico Lebrun will also show up to bring home the gold. Lebrun finished 5th during the West Champs while Wealing is training for the London Olympics in 2012.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Idaho will get to host downhill mountain bike racing once more since 2005 NORBA. The Fluidride Cup racing series is Northwest’s top event and Schweitzer is included as stop#4 in the 5-stop tour. Other stops in the tour are Whistler, B.C. and Mt. Hood, Oregon.
Because of the event, Schweitzer has plans to build a new pro course to challenge and provoke riders to excel. There is a potential of a 2200 ft vertical. Intermediate and beginner courses will be allocated to existing trails in the area.
Fluidride owner Simon Lawton writes on his site about the Schweitzer race course, “Anyone who remembers racing there can tell you that this mountain is the real deal with terrain that just keeps coming. With such large vertical, Schweitzer may make a great future Fluidride Enduro location as well.”

The US Cup Triple Crown at Chalk Creek, Colorado was won by Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski and Georgia Gould. This stop was part of the Mountain States Cup series as well.
On Saturday at Nathrop, Colorado, Horgan-Kobelski of Subaru-Gary Fisher won the pro short track division while Gould of Luna Pro Team won the Super D race. Come Sunday, both won the cross-country races.
Horgan-Kobelski was victorious over Jay Henry of Tokyo Joe’s and Sid Taberlay of ShoAir-Specialized.
At the XC, Gould bested Kelli Emmett of Giant and Katie Compton of Planet Bike. Compton hoped to win her first mountain bike race but it was not meant to be. She will be competing next in Offenburg, Germany on May 22-23 for the World Cup round three.

The stage four of the Amgen Tour of California was won by Liquigas’ Francesco Chicchi. Chicchi outsprinted Mark Cavendish of HTC-Columbia and JJ Haedo of Saxo Bank. On the other hand, David Zabriskie of Garmin-Transitions retains his overall lead.
The stage was set with a break composed of Rabobank’s Lars Boom, Quick Step’s Jurgen De Walle, Robert Britton of Bissell, Jeremy Powers of Jelly Belly Peanut Butter Kenda and Ryan Anderson of Kelly Benefit Strategies. The strong group eventually fell apart by the first climb of the stage.
Boom was the last man left at 6 kilometers remaining. His teammates Maarten Tjallingi and Paul Martens also made a run for it but the final chapter was left to a field sprint. Chicchi stood to lose against the world’s best sprinters Haedo and Cavendish but he pulled it off. “Peter Sagan put me in good position from 300 meters to go,”said the victor….
The annual Young guns tour kicks off in Europe come July. The Australian Sports Commission’s National Talent ID and Development has called upon the best of the best of Australia’s upcoming triathlon stars to meet the challenge overseas. Ten of Australia’s best athletes have been signed up for the tour.
Craig Redman, Manager of Triathlon Australia’s National Talent and Development expressed that the team will be competing in 2010 Under 23 world Championships in Budapest in September. “We have an exciting mix of talent in this year’s NTID Young Guns team with a number of newcomers, including Autralian Junior and under 23 champion Holly Aitken and the ever-improving Keira Pride,” said Redman. He further added that Jamie Huggett, Australian under 23 champion and under 23 Oceania Championship silver medalist Sam Betten will be heading the men’s squad.
