Basso Beats Evans at Monte Zoncolan

Both are privileged to have the Italian Alberto Sassi as their coach. Sassi, earlier last month was diagnosed to be suffering from brain cancer and predicted one or the other of his “sons” would win.

On the punishing 222 km 15th stage race, Evans and Basso were the toughest athletes on the field fitting each other. The 2006 champion Basso prevailed.

On the much feared Monte Zoncolan climb to the finish, the duo disposed of everyone. It was a 10.1 km climb with an average of 11.9 percent gradient and Basso distanced himself from Evans with 3.7 km to go for the finish. He won by 79 seconds over Evans and rose to third overall behind David Arroyo of Spain.

Tauler Positive for Banned Substances

tauler positive for banned substances 300x225   Tauler Positive for Banned SubstancesToni Tauler, 36-year-old Spanish track cyclist and winner of the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics was tested for banned substances. The results came back as positive. The Spanish Cycling Federation facilitated the drug testing before the competition of the world championships in Ballerup, Denmark. This happened last March.

As with the guidelines of a first positive, a second analysis can be requested. Tauler took this chance of a B-sample testing. Spanish newspaper El Pais as well as sports newspaper AS revealed that the second testing will take effect as scheduled. The Spanish Cycling Federation chose not to comment on the said news item published.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Tauler took home the silver in the men’s Madison event, together with Joan Llaneras. The same category in Ballerup was where Tauler was supposed to compete with teammate Unai Elloriage but they were forced to withdraw and drop from the race.

Earlier this week, the tracks of Offenburg has been drenched and there seem to be a few slippery spots, nevertheless, the burning weather and clear nights prevailed making the technical trademark obstacles like the “Wolf’s Drop”, the “North Shore”, the “World Class Drop”, and the “Snake Pit” irrelevant.

The new Labyrinth bikes are said to be released this July in UK. The company Windwave announces is arrival in UK this summer of 2010. The first bike available is the 150mm or 6 inches call Agile. They designed this bike to excel in climbing as well as descending rough trails.

The frame is the company’s very own ‘Adapt Link’ system. It is a single pivot layout that links between the swing arm and Marzocchi Roco Lo shock. At a low average of ration in the first 2in of travel, Labyrinth is almost insensitive to bumps. A linear action for the middle 2.8 in and a progressive 1.2 inches of travel makes this bike all smooth. The linkage is built at a 7005 triple butted frame that has been forged with links and asymmetric chain stays around it.
