The Reading Rickshaw Project

the reading rickshaw project 300x225   The Reading Rickshaw ProjectLauren, Joe and Sarah are students and alumni of the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota. They came out with a program dubbed as the Reading Rickshaw. The objective of the program is to enhance and instill awareness in the community on arts and books through a one of a kind literary journey on a four wheeled bicycle ride.

Art and books, literary collections hand picked by artists will also be exhibited in strategic points as the mobile artistic journey goes underway. The scheme is to impart creative ideas, artist lectures, read a story along while enjoying the ride. The basic element of the concept is to make books and art available in parks, lakes and downtown Minneapolis where it is ordinarily beyond the reach of many people.

Vision UCI Compliant Base Bars

vision uci compliant base bars 300x116   Vision UCI Compliant Base BarsUCI has decided to enforce its “3:1” regulation last year which dictated the control measures on the ration of chord (length) to thickness of any non-circular “aerodynamic” cross section component of the bike. Vision, the aero handlebar specialist has come up with an improved two base designs and with an internal brake cable routing in compliance with the regulation.

The bars are both of aluminum and carbon bases which will be out in the market from mid-June in the UK. Both components have an extending sideways of 31.8 diameter center bulge which would accommodate clip-on tri-bar clamps. It characterized a “zero-degree flat wing” profile.

microdosing in cycling 300x300   Microdosing in CyclingThe sport of cycling is one of the most prestigious yet very challenging sports in the world and is often plagued by illegal endurance performances due to drug use. This has brought about the strict implementation of biological passport to contain cheating in the sporting event.

The biological passport scheme developed two and half years ago has the total support and confidence of the World Anti-Doping Agency. The passport monitors the blood of athletes and electronically records the composition of the blood and any other substances, prohibited or not, that could boost performance.

However, a group of scientists came out with a way to which biological passport could be avoided. The scientists concluded that through microdosing method, the biological passport could be eluded as well as EPO detection in an athlete’s blood stream. ge strathclyde park itu triathlon european cup winners 300x225   GE Strathclyde Park ITU Triathlon European Cup winnersAfter convincingly prevailing against top contenders Alexandra Tondeur and Charlotte McShane, Great Britain’s Jacqueline Slack was declared the 2010 GE Strathclyde Park ITU Triathlon European Cup Championship. Both contenders came in second and third respectively.

Slack outdone herself by clocking a 02:05:54 time finish taking the win. She came with the chase pack out of the water unnoticed until she put on her running shoes and took the lead. “I’m amazed to be honest, I didn’t expect to come out and win.” She said she was looking somewhere to be in the top five or three. “Either would have been great so early in this season, I’m delighted.” The swim was great and the conditions were fantastic, she added, “The bike was tough and the run was really hard because of the heat and the hills.”

The Cinelli x Mash SF 2010 frameset has been issued a makeover, known as the Histogram which matches their new kits. Firstly, the Mash SF kits are specially made for the opening of Project Space Gallery and Tour of California, but a few frames were also available for sale on the MASH SF website.

Only available in limited quantities, the Cinelli x Mash SF 2010 Histogram Frameset feature splashes of blue, green, black, purple, pink, and white, while produced with powder coat, matte clear coat, and fine die-cuts. Only three framesets released, and it looks like Mash is all out. If your lucky, you might spot one on eBay.

The triathlete Bennett based in Boulder, Colorado is an Australian with an American wife. He has both a US and Australian citizenship. In a statement by Bennett, “Laura and I have built our careers together for the past 11 years, leaning on each other constantly for support in coaching and mentoring.” He added, “…I cannot do this as well as I would like unless I can be fully part of her team.” Bennett is looking forward to be joining her in her final Olympic journey.

a clean victory for basso 300x188   A Clean Victory for BassoIvan Basso elated his fans with his stunning win yesterday on one of the most rugged mountains in cycling, the Monte Zoncolan. However it did raise some doubts due to a doping suspension he served. He was involved in Operacion Puerto and was never been the same since then.

Basso promised to be clean in all ethical manners and trained with Aldo Sassi. He claimed that his victory was in good faith and all in guts, sweat and skill.

He said, “My hematocrit values, training mileage, the cols that I’ve climbed, everything is easy to check,” while showing his readings on line since he made his comeback and added, “I follow the strict line of the team, and that line is also my own.”
