The Halfords Tour Series kicked off at Canary Wharf and Tony Gibb of CyclePremier.com-Metaltek won the individual win with a sprint finish. It was an exciting day as Rapha-Condor-Sharp’s Dean Downing walked away with the orange jersey of Halfords Tour leader. Another highlight was at the first Boardman Bikes sprint race where Team Raleigh’s Liam Holohan was the victor.
The race began with numerous attacks before the peloton swallowed them back. As the finish drew near, come the final laps, there was a lot of aggressive action coming from teams on the lead.
London’s Docklands was a witness to Gibb’s victorious sprint against Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta’s Malcolm Elliott. Elliott had to settle for coming in second wheras Downing came to cross the line at third place. Downing took the leader jersey because Rapha-Condor-Sharp won the team competition. BMC Racing Team welcomes the return of Alessandro Ballan. Ballan was held off in joining any competition due to doping claims. However, the charges were unfounded. The La Gazzetta Dello Sport released a story of an investigation of the Lampre squad, both current and previous members, its team officials and coach Guido Nigrelli were ongoing for doping. Guiseppe Saronni, Maurizio Piovani and Fabrizio Bontempi were also under investigation.
In response to the investigation which was led by Antonino Condorelli, Ballan said, “I have received notification of a request to extend the preliminary investigation by six months. I have put everything in the hands of my lawyer.”

There has been a lot of speculation over Zdeněk Štybar and which team he will be with for the season 2010/2011. Štybar has a contract with Telenet-Fidea until February 2011 but on his website, he mentioned that he hasn’t finalized on a team yet.
Kevin Pauwels, Štybar’s teammate, is also known to be on the same boat as the Czech rider. Telenet-Fidea’s team manager Hans van Kasteren and Jurgen Mettepenningen of Sunweb are on the verge of a lawsuit over the recent events. However, if there was a team who had a chance at grabbing Štybar, it would be Lanbouwkrediet Credit Agricole.
