At the Giro d’Italia, the 25 year old American Tyler Farrar took the stage 2 with a sprint finish making his first Giro stage career win. Cadel Evans of Australia, the reigning world champion, was in the third place during the individual time-trial after the first stage. He now place a second ahead of Farrar in the overall standings.
Farrar, out-sprinted the Australian Mathew Goss, Fabio Sabatini of Italy and Andre Grejpel of Germany at the 209 km home stretch run from Amsterdam to Utrecht. Tyler Farrar rode for the Garmin-Transitions team.
Paul Voss of Germany, together with three other riders broke off from the first kilometer of the race up to the last 25 km setting up a bunch finish.
On Monday’s third stage, the bikers will race a 224 km run from Amsterdam to Middelburg.
