The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame opened its doors last April 24 at Davis, California. The Hall of Fame will showcase Greg LeMond memorabilia, antique racing items as well as biographies of cycling legends, all encased in immaculate glass displays.
George Hincapie, who finished the Tour de France 13 times, was present at the opening, together with several Davis city officials, representatives of Hall of Famers and other legendary icons like George Mount, Ned Overend and Wayne Stetina.
Hincapie shared that his current residence, Greenville, S.C. was among the finalists for the relocation of the Hall of Fame from Somerville, N.J. “I was a little concerned about that. Long Beach, California will hold its annual Long Beach Bicycle Festival on May 7, 8 and 9, 2010. The city has a vision to enhance its Bicycle Master Plan with the help of more than 25 organizations, volunteers and vendors who would like to see Long Beach City become the friendliest urban biking city in the United States.
The Long Beach Bicycle Festival will feature several mini-events in the three-day celebration. The roster of events include bicycle polo matches, cyclestyle fashion show, bicycle film festival, bike photo contest, fixed gear fest and more. There will be a charity race called the Tour of Long Beach
The Fixed Gear Fest will start off the festival with a slew of freestyle riding , skid, track stand and trick contests, live music, DJs, roller racing and vendor booths displaying their wares. At 6pm, the City Council officials will have a competition on tricycles.
