Andre Greipel of HTC-Columbia wins another round at the 2010 Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. He bested Angelo Furlan and Claudio Cucinotta with a sprint.
Jan Schaffrath, sports director of HTC-Columbia, shares that it was a tough day but the team did what they came to do and did a splendid job, “A lot of climbing, particularly in the last 20 kilometres, but André stuck in there and we finally got the win”.
Schaffrath described the stage as similar to a heart rate monitor because of the numerous climbs marked on the course, “The longest was about three kilometers. The last sprint was a little bit dangerous, though, and came after another little climb in the final kilometers, but André held on and then did a great sprint.”
Schaffrath noted the strong efforts made by Gert Dockx and Aleksejs Saramotins as well. He adds that tomorrow’s stage will be more challenging but remains hopeful of the outcome, “Tomorrow’s another difficult stage, it’s even hillier. But we’ve got several options, including Tejay Van Garderen. and everybody got through today’s stage fine. We’re optimistic.”
