Steve Cozza will be joining the Amgen Tour of California next month. Cozza made a speedy recovery from his surgery due to a broken collarbone which he experience during the Tour of Qatar.
Cozza recuperated in Girona, Spain and came back to race at the Volta a Catalunya in March. He was instrumental in helping Tyler Farrar win Scheldeprijs and place fifth in the Tour of Flanders.
Cozza explained how much he wanted to be there for the classics. “I did the Volta a Catalunya, then came up north for Flanders, Scheldeprijs and then Roubaix. They’re pretty hard races to come back in but my forms getting better and that’s good. It was great getting the win with Tyler but then Roubaix was pretty bad. Everybody on the team except me and Danny Pate had some kind of crash and so we couldn’t have had worse luck.”
Cozza failed to finish the Brabntse Pijl but he is looking forward to ride at the Amstel Gold Race and at the Tour of California. “It’s so great to be riding it because I’m from Northern California and so it’s like a hometown race for me. I’ll get to see my family and that’s always nice.”
Surprisingly, Cozza has supporters from Holland who cheered him on at the Paris-Roubaix last week. They were all wearing fake mustaches since Cozza’s handlebar mustache became his trademark in Europe.
To be a fan, you can go to Cozza’s website, print a fake mustache and wear it on his races.
