The Absa Cape Epic has finally ended and the final verdict is a victory by the Bulls Team. Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm (2:44.59,6) finished fourth at the last stage of the race. The final stage was designed to be a challenge with short and steep climbs for the 65km distance.
No stranger to the podium, Platt and Sahm also won the Absa Cape Epic in 2007 and 2009. After a grueling 8-day race, the Bulls Team finished at the total of 29 hours, 47 minutes and 46 seconds. Coming at second place is Burry Stander and Christoph Sauser of Songo-Specialized by DCM at 29 hours, 57 minutes and 46 seconds. Third place goes to MTN Qhubeka Topeak Ergon’s Kevin Evans and Alban Lakata with 30 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
The final stage finish line was crossed with pride first by Jose Hermida and Rudi Von Houts of Multivan Merida. They stood sixth in the overall ranking. Second to finish was Rabobank Giant Off Road Team represented by Emil Lindgren and Fabian Giger. Songo-Specialized by DCM finished at third with the Bulls Team at fourth and the MTN Qhubeka Topeak Ergon team crossing the finish in fifth place.
In the women’s category, team Rothaus-CUBE won first place at 37:31.03,3. Kristine and Anna-Sofie Noergaard also took the podium five out of the eight stages. Second place with a time of 38:01.15,6 went to Hannele Steyn-Kotze and Ivonne Kraft of Team Sludge Ladies and third place was won by Giuliana Vitali and Tamara Horn of team bike2help.ch – Big Tree with time of 41:10.43,9.
The mixed category was won by Yolande Speedy and Paul Cordes of MTN Business Qhubeka (34:29.32,3). Coming up second to them is Bärti Bucher and Esther Süss of Wheeler – BIXS (35:17.00,9). Third place went to Nico Pfitzenmaier and Sally Bigham of Adidas Big Tree (35:51.45,2).
