WABA Offers Bicycle Safety Classes
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) is offering free classes on Confident City Cycling (CCC) and Learn to Ride (L2R) classes which charge a fee of $10. This is in line with their mission to promote safety in bicycling throughout the Washington area.
The classes are not exclusive to Washington residents. Anybody can join and learn about bicycle safety in daily activities like errands, commuting and for fun.
The CCC1 is a basic skills class that will run for two hours. It will cover topics on basic bicycling information and on-bike skills. The fist half of the class will be in a classroom setting and the other half will be application of what you’ve learned outside, on your bike. Everyone will be required to sign a liability waiver and are also required to bring his own bike, helmet and water.
The CCC2 class will be focused on vehicular cycling principles, roadway positioning, changing lanes, turns and avoidance maneuvers. Same teaching principle as above applies. CCC1 is a prerequisite in order for you to attend this 4-hour class.
L2R is a class for adults who have never ridden a bike before. Special techniques on teaching the participants balance, pedal, steer and other skills, will be used on this class. This will take 3 hours of learning. The fee will also include a one year membership in WABA.
