Alex Rasmussen and Michael Morkov both rising superstars of the Danish Cycling team will not race in the coming UCI Championship at their very own turf the Ballerup Super Arena. The upcoming Track Worlds event is scheduled to kick off on March 24 – 28, 2010. They are also set and getting ready for road racing with Saxo Bank. As part of their preparations for the Flemish Classics and the Giro de’Italia, they are in southern France undergoing rigorous training. The two top Danish Cyclists will defend their titles in the Madison event in Denmark after they compete at Cholet-Pays de Loire come Sunday.
In the Beijing Olympics, their team won the silver medal for Denmark. Since the world championship is going to be held in Denmark, Saxo Bank team is thriving to be highly competitive for road racing led by Rasmussen and Morkov. Both started out as track riders and have gained popularity in the World Cup and world championship since 2004 competing on track races.
In the Madison event, the two cyclist will race but not as member riders for the Saxo Bank. On their own capacities as track riders, they have maintained and improved their stamina, techniques, speed and knowledge in the track racing arena.
Rasmussen confirms that on March 25 they expect to be racing with the finest track riders from Holland, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Belgium and Russia. He has his heart ready for the Paris-Robaix race where three of his team mates made it and one did win the championship.
On the other hand, Morkov will be joining the Giro d’Italia after the competition. Bradley McGee, former track champ and road rider, will be coaching the Danish duo.
