Bike manufacturer Cannondale has announced in its blog that their conceptual commuter bike called the Jackknife will now be going into production as the ONBike. The Jackknife concept bike was a stunner when it was introduced a few years ago, sporting the single-sided fork technology from Cannondale and eliminating the need for a rear triangle in the process.

Cannondale previously had no plans of going into production with its conceptual urban commuter, but due to “overwhelming support and interest”, the company is now moving its conceptual design into production as the ONBike. However, there will only be 250 ONBikes slated for production, with each unit individually numbered.

What makes the ONBike design so special? Well, this urban commuter boasts of a unique drivetrain system that incorporates an enclosed casing with a connecting beam to the bottom bracket and rear wheel. This is built into one…

Oscar Freire of Team Rabobank showed his winning form once again as he beat 25 other world-class sprinters on the way to capturing his third Milan-San Remo victory last Saturday.

Freire was racing along with 25 other riders in the front pack after the final ascent, but managed to get the upper hand and put himself into perfect position to get the lead as the finish line drew near. The Team Rabobank star has made a habit of winning the Milan-San Remo, as he also won the title in the 2004 and 2007 seasons. For this year, Freire had to beat the likes of Tom Boonen (Quick Step) and Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-Farnese Vini), who finished second and third, respectively.

Oscar Freire also managed to avoid any pitfalls that plagued other riders, including sensational sprinter Mark Cavendish, who had to endure ripped spokes and two crashes during the race….

There will be no racing for Team RadioShack and Lance Armstrong in this year’s edition of the Giro d’Italia, as organizers prepare to anounce the invited teams that will be seeing action in the 2010 Giro this coming May 8.

In the previous weeks prior to this event, Team RadioShack manager Johan Bruyneel had publicly expressed his hopes of getting an invitation for the team to join in the Giro this year. Lance Armstrong’s plans of racing in the Tour of California, however, may have played a role in failing to secure an invite from the organizers, since it would appear that the team was not particularly focusing its sights on the Giro hard enough.

Lance Armstrong’s deteriorating relationship with race director Angelo Zomegnan certainly did not help matters any. Zomegnan and Armstrong clashed when the American rider paticipated in the 2009 edition of the Giro d’Italia…

Peugeot, the French car maker, showed the world that they can also be flexible to create and design a bike that will definitely catch your eye. The SR1 concept bike was on display at last week’s International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland.

Together with the SR1 concept car, the concept bike was designed to be a head-turner. The spoke and hubless rear wheel with rim drive system makes a striking impression. Its leather ‘tyres’ clearly says that the bike places form and innovation above function.

Tim Andrew, mountain biker enthusiast, noted on his website yellowwheels.com that the bike can possibly be similar to its concept car counterpart. The hybrid drive system with electric power and regenerative brakes in the car might possibly be placed for the bike as well.

The concept bike seems to be have been made to complement the concept car. Peugeot certainly stuck to the same minimalistic look…
