DT Swiss launched the new Tricon wheelset last week in Girona, Spain. It was previously introduced in the Annual Eurobike Show in Germany last year.

Tricon or Triple Connection was a project DT Swiss started nearly ten years ago. The company began to manufacture and develop the wheels only a few years ago despite the project’s available prototypes and hub designs.

The wheels feature many interesting designs. The spoke lacing or “crow foot” as coined by DT Swiss, is a popular lacing pattern used in UK in the 70s. Tricon has one radial spoke and two crossed spokes banded together on the hub flange. They all function as one to provide maximum stiffness and torque transmission. It also has 18 spokes front and 24 rear, giving the wheels a unique design.

A three-piece shell separates the spoke tension from the bearings. This will also lower rolling resistance. The two crossed spokes are…

At the North American Handmade Bicycle show, frame builders, environmentalists, lawn care specialists and bicycle riders were awed by Ted Wojcik’s human-powered lawnmower. Wojcik is a bicycle builder based in New Hampshire. His machine was received with praise may go into production as early as summer.

Wojcik designed his lawnmower as a recumbent style bicycle tugging a mower along to trim the grass. He created the machine at his ship, Ted Wojcik Custom Bicycles. As it was being tested for its maiden run, curious on-lookers were attracted enough to inquire where they could obtain one.

The newly designed machine got more than its share of interest from the public that when it was entered at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, Mr. Wojcik was caught unaware of the demand it generated. Wojcik and his son Cody got inspired to create the machine in order to help decrease the pollution traditionally powered lawnmowers…

Michael Boogerd has expressed his willingness to extend a helping hand to compatriot and former teammate Thomas Dekker while the latter undergoes a two-year doping suspension handed down by the UCI last week.

Boogerd says that Dekker is welcome to stay at his home “for two quiet weeks”, should his former teammate need any assistance or support. The two cyclists were part of the Rabobank pro-cycling team until Boogerd’s retirement in 2007.

Michael Boogerd says that Dekker needs to stay motivated if he wants to return to top riding form, and mentions other formerly-suspended cyclists who were able to make a successful return to cycling, such as David Millar and Ivan Basso. He adds that Dekker just needs a chance and hopes that the “doping stigma” will not hound his compatriot for the rest of his life.

For his part, Dekker admits that he definitely deserves a suspension, but…

RCS Sport, organizers of the Milan-San Remo race, has confirmed that Lance Armstrong will be part of Team Radioshack’s list of participants for this Saturday’s event. The team will be joining the 200-rider peloton for the Italian Classic.

It is sort of a comeback for Armstrong. Giro d’Italia is another RCS Sport that he joined in 2009 to prepare himself for the Tour de France.

RCS Sport Director Angelo Zomegnan and Armstrong had an encounter on the ninth stage in 2009’s Giro. There was a peloton protest for that stage, claiming it was a dangerous circuit. Some riders claimed that Armstrong was behind the boycott and Zomegnan did not hide his displeasure over the “older riders” protesting with Armstrong.

Armstrong will not be joining the Giro d’Italia this year for he will be competing in the Tour of California. The latter will take effect on same month as with the Italian Grand Tour…
