Mongoose Cachet 700c Fixed Gear Single Speed at Walmart

The underground world of riding fixed gear has truly surfaced in the past years due to media, and now some might say it has hit rock bottom due to the new Mongoose Cachet 700c fixed gear single speed. Yes it gets worse, the Mongoose fixed gear is available at Walmart, so you can grab some toothpaste and a fixed. Although we are sure two different opinions might come from this, being able to grab a affordable single speed bike is a positive, but Walamrt is down looked upon cyclists. Retail price is $149.

Well, not all bad. If you are on a business trip and want to get some riding in you can forgo the airline shipping charges, skip the LBSs daily rental costs and stop by Walmart for a cheap fixie fix in your spare time. Only problem is what to do with the bike when your business trip is over.
Personally I agree with a comment about it will get a few more people in on a starter bike and get a few less parents having to drive kids to the mall. It will be nice to see more casual riders on their bikes.
Well, it was nice well it lasted. Sure, it starts out with a cheap fixie but how long will it take before Walmart expands and puts small bike shops out of buisness? They enjoy putting all other types of small buisness into the ground, why not us?
Wherever I search for REVIEWS on the Cachet, there is not one written by someone who has actually ridden one. How the hell can you review a bike with out seeing it, let alone actually riding it. So far, I’ve found out that the bike weighs around 22 lb. with brakes, it comes with a kick stand and a chain guard, The gearing is 44 x 18T freewheel, with a flip/flop hub, and the fork is slightly different from the one pictured. Still no info. on how it handles.
Ever buy a bike from Walmart? I bought an under $50 mountain bike to ride hilly trails on in mass. a few summers ago. The first 30 minutes I was silly with the thrill of a bike cheaper than my buddy’s skewers. Then I tried the first terain and bent the crank and potato chipped the rear wheel so bad I had to lay the bike down and jump on them just to pedal it back to the car. It LOOKED like a full suspension bike but the metal is study as a rolled up car license plate being used as the frame as after 4-5 riding sessions the only part that was a keeper was possibly the inner tubes and reflectors. WHat a pile of JUNK !!! I say them them infect people with the riding bug and let the independent shops reap the big sale with high demand.
You Psuedo Effing “hipster” ********,… wheather Wal-Mart sells a fixie/single speed hub bike,.. who cares,… its the same as if you build one yourself… just the name,… GTFO over it,… its an immage and a fad. why would you even be looking about it if you werent so conserned about your messanger bag and your immage! if some (and i quote) “douchbag” wants to buy and decides to ride Fixed… WHO CARES!!! … a bike is a bike… take off your training wheels and learn how to ride….
i own a bike shop well fixie whop and man this is going to be tuff to beat price is great and i am based in a college town where price is the key facter to it all
there is one plus side to it repaires on it will be good for me since it is walmart it will be braking down a lot unless you upgrade which is where bike shops come in
but there is one major down side if a kid in high or younger gets one and trys to be a messnger for fun and gets killed from it what dose it mean for us pros of the street they try already to ban us in certan areas of the world
hope this dosent go wrong
If it was being sold at your local record store, you would be praising mongoose for it’s virtues.
IS THIS TRUE IF IT IS COMMENT BACK PLZ!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH
The difference between a Mongoose built for Walmart and one built for Pro Shops is the quality. Walmart demands super low prices from manufacturers and that means cutting back on quality in order to turn a profit. Most Fixie riders customize their bikes and they look for quality frames and components. And a Pro Bike Shop is the Only place for that. I’ve been building my own Single/Fixed gear bikes for 30 years and one thing is for sure, I could have never done it without the Pro Shops.
