Mongoose Cachet 700c Fixed Gear Single Speed at Walmart

The underground world of riding fixed gear has truly surfaced in the past years due to media, and now some might say it has hit rock bottom due to the new Mongoose Cachet 700c fixed gear single speed. Yes it gets worse, the Mongoose fixed gear is available at Walmart, so you can grab some toothpaste and a fixed. Although we are sure two different opinions might come from this, being able to grab a affordable single speed bike is a positive, but Walamrt is down looked upon cyclists. Retail price is $149.

Well, not all bad. If you are on a business trip and want to get some riding in you can forgo the airline shipping charges, skip the LBSs daily rental costs and stop by Walmart for a cheap fixie fix in your spare time. Only problem is what to do with the bike when your business trip is over.
Personally I agree with a comment about it will get a few more people in on a starter bike and get a few less parents having to drive kids to the mall. It will be nice to see more casual riders on their bikes.
Well, it was nice well it lasted. Sure, it starts out with a cheap fixie but how long will it take before Walmart expands and puts small bike shops out of buisness? They enjoy putting all other types of small buisness into the ground, why not us?
Wherever I search for REVIEWS on the Cachet, there is not one written by someone who has actually ridden one. How the hell can you review a bike with out seeing it, let alone actually riding it. So far, I’ve found out that the bike weighs around 22 lb. with brakes, it comes with a kick stand and a chain guard, The gearing is 44 x 18T freewheel, with a flip/flop hub, and the fork is slightly different from the one pictured. Still no info. on how it handles.
Ever buy a bike from Walmart? I bought an under $50 mountain bike to ride hilly trails on in mass. a few summers ago. The first 30 minutes I was silly with the thrill of a bike cheaper than my buddy’s skewers. Then I tried the first terain and bent the crank and potato chipped the rear wheel so bad I had to lay the bike down and jump on them just to pedal it back to the car. It LOOKED like a full suspension bike but the metal is study as a rolled up car license plate being used as the frame as after 4-5 riding sessions the only part that was a keeper was possibly the inner tubes and reflectors. WHat a pile of JUNK !!! I say them them infect people with the riding bug and let the independent shops reap the big sale with high demand.
You Psuedo Effing “hipster” ********,… wheather Wal-Mart sells a fixie/single speed hub bike,.. who cares,… its the same as if you build one yourself… just the name,… GTFO over it,… its an immage and a fad. why would you even be looking about it if you werent so conserned about your messanger bag and your immage! if some (and i quote) “douchbag” wants to buy and decides to ride Fixed… WHO CARES!!! … a bike is a bike… take off your training wheels and learn how to ride….
i own a bike shop well fixie whop and man this is going to be tuff to beat price is great and i am based in a college town where price is the key facter to it all
there is one plus side to it repaires on it will be good for me since it is walmart it will be braking down a lot unless you upgrade which is where bike shops come in
but there is one major down side if a kid in high or younger gets one and trys to be a messnger for fun and gets killed from it what dose it mean for us pros of the street they try already to ban us in certan areas of the world
hope this dosent go wrong
If it was being sold at your local record store, you would be praising mongoose for it’s virtues.
IS THIS TRUE IF IT IS COMMENT BACK PLZ!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH
The difference between a Mongoose built for Walmart and one built for Pro Shops is the quality. Walmart demands super low prices from manufacturers and that means cutting back on quality in order to turn a profit. Most Fixie riders customize their bikes and they look for quality frames and components. And a Pro Bike Shop is the Only place for that. I’ve been building my own Single/Fixed gear bikes for 30 years and one thing is for sure, I could have never done it without the Pro Shops.
I owe a Mongoose Cache and I love it. It’s light, it’s fast and it handles good. I ride a lot of bikes and i am happy that Mongoose makes bikes with advance technology. I can’t beat the price for my first fixie.
After changing the seat and slippery tires, the bike rides nice now. I ride with The Midnight Ridazz. So far, I am the only one in our group that rides a Cache.
As far these bike putting small bike shops out of business i think your wrong. This bike forces buyers to visit local bike shops to upgrade the parts that come on the bike. and give you the opportunity to teach new riders the difference between shop quality bikes and mass produced bikes. so if you like new business get parts in your inventory and be helpful. or if you dont likie new business then dont.
i just bought my mongoose cache and am planning on putting some upgraded parts such as hubs crankset pedals cog ect any thing it neds to make it a good quality bike is this worth n will it make my bike better quality wise
Marc, if you are going to upgrade the parts you mention, then the price for these plus the LBS’ labour will be as much as buying a much better bike in the first place! Do yourself a favour and crunch the numbers before you buy a Mongosse Cache.
I am contemplating on whether or not I will buy one of these. Mainly the price and for the fact i am going to be beating the hell out of it at bike polo, further more there are people on CL and LBS that sell USED **** for twice the price of this. Sure the parts may be better, but i have all the **** i need to make it my own. Note the fact the wheels going on there cost twice as much as the bike but i could care less. And dont tell me none of you have ever shopped at Wal-mart. You’re all liars and fat mouths, Where do you go Target?
I am a rider of 46 year. I also make and sell bikes, unless you pull out a torch and what ever material you decide to use and build your own, for 149. I went to walmart and got one. I rode it for a week hard, I must say, I think it responded very well for walmart bike. All bike unless custom made are from China. They just slap their label brand on and raise the price.
I’m here reading reviews because this fixie has caught my eye. I typ. build and ride,cruisers,limo/stretches and redo vintage bikes, yet I live on the beach and don’t go far. I’m looking to get into more street riding and commuting being a new dad and home owner the price is right. I’m looking to learn the way of a fixed and like the option of the flip/flop. Granted it is a Wally bike and yes their MT bikes are junk but some of there cheap single speed cruisers are great bikes to start and build up.
I own this bike. and the frame is pretty good, it’s pretty light. I took the breaks off , they need replacing. took the chain guard off and pedal straps, changed the grips, although it’s not really needed..changed the handle bars, so pretty much..the frame is good for the cost..really, can’t go wrong with 150.00.
What would Jesus ride? If Jesus was on earth today he would ride this bike.
This bike is like the car you want to modify to take down the big guy’s. The bike is hot just use your imagination. I purchased one this week, and for about a hundred dollers in upgrades this bike will be unreal.
it goes backward
I have ridden nice bikes and cheap bikes and i have to say that this bike is awesome for the price i have easily put over 2k miles into one and it flys nice, Im not taken it easy on the bike either. Look how many spokes it has. You can have a real nice bike to beat the **** out of
This might be of help. I recently purchased the Mongoose Sinsure 700c from WalMart. It is very similar to the Cachet, same. Quando hubs & freewheel, same chainwheel & cranks, and same headset & fork. There are a few small differences in components that I feel seperate the two in the eyes of the consumer. The inverted mustache handlebars are an impressive addition, the quill stem is also slightly different. Reid rubber tires & grips are another nice touch. My only complaints are that the seat shown online was reid-red, the one in the box was a dull brown, and that the freewheel is for lack of a better word … cheap. Instead of making your standard tick tick it makes an eeking noise that I read also happened in another review for the Cachet. When it comes down to I believe the Sinsure is the better bike, and for only $20 more.
I have a cachet and it is fantastic. I’ve put lots of city miles on it and still runs smooth. No loose anything, no weird noises or grinding. Lose the kickstand, chainguard, front break and the stickers and its a great looking bike. can’t go wrong for 150 bucks.
