Luke Roberts of Team Milram has expressed his plans on going for a strong finish to the upcoming Classics and Giro d’Italia events this season.
The highest place South Australian, Luke Roberts (Milram) made a huge start this season landing him fifth on the UCI world rankings. He hopes to maintain his great shape up to the upcoming Spring Classics on to his second Grand Tour appearance of his career at the Giro d’Italia.
He hopes that his experience when he was with Team CSC racing with Fabian Cancellara and Stuart O’Grady when they won will help him in winning now in Milram. He will soon set off on a Spring Calendar featuring Milan-Sanremo (March 20), Gent-Wevelgem (March 28), the Tour of Flanders (April 4) and Paris-Roubaix (April 11).
Roberts had expected to turn up in Adelaide still in fine form. “Finishing last season early meant I could put in a really strong couple of months of training, so the Tour Down Under was a big goal.” said Roberts.
Milram signed up Roberts to boost the training of Gerald Ciolek, the team’s star sprinter. But, with the estimated two-months absence of Ciolek due to a crash on last week’s Tour of Qatar, Roberts is still positive that the team will shine through.
He admits that the race was more challenging than the previous years, and even though the results were satisfactory, he could have improved more. Roberts’ and his teammates contract with Milram extends only to the end of 2010 season.
